Fellow Fool Alyce Lomax declared 2008 The Year of Moral Hazard.  Talking with her today, it got me thinking...how else could we characterize the year?:

2008: The Year That Put Me 10 Years Farther From Retirement

2008: The Year Wall Street Died (2010: The Street Strikes Back?)

2008: The Year of the American Comrade

2008: The Year of the Bubble

2008: The Year Greenspan Went From Genius to Geriatric

2008: The Year to Leave Detroit (first the Big Three, now the Lions going 0-16)

2008: The Year of $4, er $3, er $2, er $1 Gas

2008: The Year I Became Richer Than Iceland

2008: The Year of Chinese Democracy (Axl meet Mao)

That's all I got...here's to a better 2009!

2008 Can we get a do over?

2008 Buy and hold. You got to hold on to something because the floor is about to drop underneath you.

2009 will be better if you want it to be... financially by investing in hard assets if you believe in inflation down the road, intellectually by reading books, spiritually by believing in something bigger than you (whether it be Budha, Jesus, or Mother Nature) take your pick, emotionally by knowing you create your own destiny

You want to feel poor and be depressed... repeat every day that you are poor and depressed and a loser... it works

You want to feel empowered and happy... repeat every day that you control your own destiny, that you have one life and you will live it to its fullest, that the key to happiness is not determined by macro economic events

2008: The Best Year To Get Started In Investing..

I learned a lot this year....  And since Im fresh out of university and not looking to retire for awhile... Im glad this crash happened now..

As for you older "fools" who just lost 40% or more of your savings... I feel for ya and promise I will not make the same mistake when I am your age.

But seriously, what a great time to be a young investor.  Ive learned a tough lesson early on and am looking forward to my first bull market, whenever that may come.

Happy New Years

Cheers

I hear you Bays. Unfortunately, I'm just about to start my second semester of college, so I only have like $5,000 to invest right now. :/ Hopefully there will still be bargains when I am out.

Great additions, all!

onlygreenthumbs, completely agreeing on "the key to happiness is not determined by macro economic events."

Welcome to the rollercoaster of investing, Bays...although you missed this one, I'm sure there will be plenty more recessions for you in the years ahead...hopefully more good times than bad, though!  Happy New Year!
