52 week Highs and Lows so far this week.

For those who have been following my blog, and noticed no updates the last two days, I have been busy hosting a wonderful musical group 'Wine & Alchemy' at six school shows and two library shows as part of the McNeese State University Banners Cultural Series.  So I missed all the excitement of the big drop and partial recovery today.

I was able to collect the numbers for Tuesday and there were 1,043 instances of 52 week lows and 1,242 instances of 52 week highs.  A total of 69 stocks hit 52 week lows.  The worst of those was InterMune, Inc ( ITMN ) which was down 80.75%.  There were 110 stocks that hit 52 week highs and the best of them was Misonix, Inc ( MSON ) which was up 52.19%

Thru Tuesday there were an average of 44 stocks that hit 52 week lows and an average of 210 stocks that hit 52 week highs.

I had a computer malfunction so got no data for Wednesday.

Today was only the third day this year when there were more instances of 52 week lows than 52 week highs.  These numbers will end up being in error because Cramer just announced that many of todays trades during the depths  of the dip will be cancelled by the exchange.

But based on the numbers generated by real-time data collection, we had 5,458 instances of stocks setting 52 week lows and 1,240 instances of stocks setting 52 week highs.

A total of 322 stocks hit 52 week lows.  These have to be wrong, but this is what the market was saying, the worst of the lows were two stocks which both showed that they traded at $0.00 which meant a loss of 100%.  Those two stocks were Gladstone Capital Corporation ( GLAD ) and Penwest Pharmaceuticals ( PPCO ). 

A total of 85 stocks hit 52 week highs.  The best of these was First Trust NASDAQ-100 EqualWeighted ETF ( QQEW ) which was up 58.21% at one point during the day. 

For the three days this week for which I have data, there have been 343 stocks that have hit 52 week lows.   The following 9 stocks have set new lows for each of the 3 days this week that I have numbers: ALIM, AOL, BVX, CBMX, FORM, INOD, MUSA, PNRG, and TAM.

For the three days this week for which I have data, there have been 432 stocks that have hit 52 week highs.   The following 4 stocks have set new highs for each of the 3 days this week that I have numbers: CALP, DTG, FCHpA and MHR.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day.  I'm glad the Banners shows are over for the week and I will be able to watch what happens tomorrow in real time.
