Just a minor point, but usually Recessions end after 14 months.  This one is still looking for a bottom 20 months into it, as every State in the Union is going broke.  Can State's Print their own currency?  They used to in the good 'Ol Days.  Or, is the Cal State IOU already a currency?

Alstry,

I would say that at least 86% of high school graduates and their families cannot afford college.  Actually the number is probably in the 90's.  That's why loans and endowments cover probably close to 95% of all tuition money out there.  Just wait until the defaults on students loans go ......POP.

I think you missed March man.  The bottom has been for a long time now.   See?

Also, have y'all seen the new & improved Google Finance?  Boy is it purdy.

Anyways... to the point at hand.  Are we talking highschool or college seniors here?  If it's highschool, I'd expect that number is about right.  However I suspect you mean college, in which case I would remind you that only about 50% of people go to college after highschool.  So 89% of 50% don't have job offers right out of the gate.  This hardly qualified us for 89% unemployment, Alstry.  You're really stretching this one.

Going to college IS a job.  After graduation, you go go GRAD SCHOOL.  With a student loan, of course.

"86% of seniors expect to graduate college without a job offer"

 1. What college senior about to graduate in the middle of this recession expects to get a job right away? This does not mean 3-6 months down the road they'll still not have found a job.

2. How many companies these days are lining up in college job fairs throwing opportunities around? This is going to take some job searching, and many interviews after graduation....doesn't mean 86% of grads will be unemployed after a reasonable amount of time.

Good job skewing the results of a dot com survey

Who cares. I made a crapload of money today (which I will of course convert to guns, gold, and canned food as per Alstry's sage advice, when the time is right). I may even hire a few college grads to help out with the construction work on the bomb shelter.

million - nice call on 8600.  very nice.

alstry - you are wasting your talents on CAPS.  You should be writing headlines for a new financial tabloid or something.  "86% unemployment rate!!!!!!"  Here on CAPS you don't get to reach the truly stupid segment of the population that might buy into such nonsense.  To really get people prepared, you need to reach the masses, not just a few stock market geeks who keep up with this crap on a daily basis.  Alstry radio.  The Astry Times.  At least a YouTube video.

I think you'd get more views on a single YouTube video than you've had on your 1000+ blog posts combined - easily.   You have a reputation on CAPS and you know we'd all have to check it out, and with that kind of base to start it's going to get noticed.

Perhaps if a majority of college graduates were graduating with a science or engineering degree it wouldn't be so bad.  Seriously how many more lawyers does this country need.
