Free Market Advocates: Meet Thomas Woods and an Audit The Fed update (100 co-sponsors)

April 29, 2009 – Comments (8)

For critical thinkers out there, who for the past year have been scratching their heads wondering how in the heck the Right and the Left can blame our problems on "free markets" when we have nothing of the sort, allow me to introduce Thomas Woods.  Some may already be familiar with his work, but I feel it is so important it deserves special attention.  [more]

Explaining How Minimum Wage Laws Work Against Social Justice

April 26, 2009 – Comments (74)

First, I want to present the argument developed by Professor Walter Block, one of Rothbard's many outstanding students, thirty two years ago.  It's as true today as it was then.  Minimum wage laws are most harmful to the very group of people that its supporters most wish to help.  Then I look forward to engaging any arguments in the comments section.     [more]

Contact Your Congressperson: Demand M3 Reporting

April 21, 2009 – Comments (4)

On March 9, 2006 the Federal Reserve discontinued reporting of M3. Below I have copied a transcript from an exchange between Dr. Paul and Chairman Bernanke on February 29, 2006.  During the exchange, Bernanke stated that they would bring M3 back if Congress requested.  After reading the exchage, I'll present an argument for returning M3 reporting, and ask you to call Bernanke's bluff.  Contact your representative (instructions at the bottom) and ask them to support H.R. 1207 (Audit the Fed) and a return of M3 reporting.    [more]

Republican Congressman gets a taste of displeasure

April 20, 2009 – Comments (1)

I'm sure Representative Barrett has had warmer welcomes.  Booed as he takes the stage.  Cat called throughout. Booed on his closing remarks. People in South Carolina are just plain pissed off.  He tried the partisan rhetoric.  Doesn't appear to have worked today.     [more]

April 19, 2009 – Comments (9)

This post is a response to devoish's excellent post on Models for limited government.  devoish is a thoughtful and courteous debater as well as a skilled investor and I have nothing bad to say about him.  I hope I can keep the discussion as elevated as he has.  I post articles because I enjoy the debates and not for any other reason.   [more]

Krugman vs. The Strawman, Part Infinity: The Tea Parties

April 13, 2009 – Comments (5)

Followers of the Austrian School are quite familiar with Krugman's constant strawman debates. They follow a predictable pattern. Find an argument that is easily refutable. Assign it to an economist or scholar whose work you have never read or studied and then defeat that argument. Triumphantly you stand before your baying liberal followers as the champion of Socialist Economics! The world is right again.  [more]

It's 1819 All Over Again

April 07, 2009 – Comments (11)

The great thing about history is that we can learn to ignore it.  Here is an interesting article by C.J. Maloney on the American housing bubble of 1819 that I recommend for reading, and eventual ignoring.  Learning from history is clearly a foolish endeavor that only antigovernment terrorist enablers would ever take part in.  [more]

Audit the Fed - H.R. 1207 now has 55 co-sponsors

April 02, 2009 – Comments (14)

H.R. 1207, Ron Paul's bill that would give Congress the power to audit The Federal Reserve now has 55 co-sponsors, including some big name Democrats. It seems that both sides of the aisle are waking up a bit. Pressure being applied by voters is also having a positive effect. If you have not contacted your representative, I urge you to do so. Send a simple email or phone call expressing your support for the bill and ask them to co-sponsor it.  This is a big step forward to transparency.  It's your money they are spending. Let's find out where it is going.  [more]
