Since giantSwan brought up the topic of marijuana a few days ago from an economic point of view, I wanted to discuss it as well as I could from a moral point of view. This is not a debate about whether or not marijuana is enjoyable and/or heightens creativity. This is not a denial that marijuana has medical uses. [more]
A while ago I blogged about the Kindle. I checked recently to see if there were any comments I had missed. I liked Mary's comment about traveling hundreds of miles to see a rare book only available at the Library of Congress. I don't collect rare books, but once my husband bought a book for 75 cents that was worth $150. We probably have about 2000 books total: some of which would be hard to replace since they aren't in print any more and not available on the Kindle. (Before you get rid of any hardback children's books be sure to check their worth on alibris or amazon, you might be surprised what you have!) [more]
I have never liked the old concrete walkway/courtyard behind my building, but it struck me this morning how the cracks and patches, diamonds and squares make it look like a monochromatic crazy quilt with various gradations in shading. Urban geometry can have a beauty all its own.
by 20% in share price. I'm not sure how many times in a row analysts have underestimated this stock (patients like quicker recovery times, no surprise!), but I'm glad this is in my real portifolio. I only wish I hadn't sold half the last time it went to $200 and bought ZMH to diversify.
My husband doesn't think that the Kindle will see wide adoption for textbook use until it is in color. Some textbooks are colorcoded to aid ease of use. Also some subjects are best studied in color. (Geography would have been even harder without the colored maps!) When will e-paper have color capability? I assume that the technology isn't ready yet or the Kindle DX would have had color.
I just read Eric Janszen: Catching a gold basher by Kaskoosek. [more]
Since January of this year, CF Industries (CF) keeps renewing its offer for Terra Industries (TRA) by extending the deadline for the offer by another month. I know it is a takeover attempt, but I do not really understand what is going on. Also how long can CF keep extending its offer--indefinitely?
Right now gas is $2.11 in my immediate area as of this morning. Based on fundamentals does anyone forsee gasoline going lower? I know that there is a relation between the cost of a barrel of oil and what gasoline costs but I don't fully understand the connection. Where is the cost of gasoline trending up or down?
If you play golf, do you play because you really enjoy the game or because it is a convenient way to network with others? Just curious.
Also is rock climbing becoming the new way to network? I can see that bonding might occur faster with that specific activity:) but it wouldn't work for me because I'm too afraid of heights.
Disclosure: I'm not a realtor, but I do know the seller of this local property personally.
I don't know how many castles are in South Carolina. Anybody else have any castles nearby?
A few days ago, I read a sad post about towns cancelling fireworks so I wanted to do an unofficial poll. Is your town having fireworks? [more]
