Woo Hoo!! Back in the 90's!!

September 19, 2008 – Comments (1)

Well my ranking rose back above the 90% mark again today.  Woo hoo!!  What a crazy ride.  Went into negative score points for a short while there and am now climbing my way back.  This is especially gratifying since a lot of the stocks in this portfolio are real-life holdings of mine, (those designated by the $ sign).  I still show a loss for the year, but it is much less now than it has been, and I am still beating the S&P500 and the Wilshire 5000 by several percentage points, so that is some consolation.  I also see a lot of bargains out there.  I'm just waiting until we get closer to maximum pessimism until I add more to the portfolio.  I am still looking though.  I hope to have a few more additions by the end of the month, and a few more next month.  It will just depend on how the market reacts.  I got lots of ideas, I just think that most/all of them will drop a little more in price before they bottom, and I want to catch them closer to the bottom than they are now.  Ten years from now, I think a lot of us will be able to look back on these times and thank the good Lord, (and I'm not talking about player LordZ here), that we had the chance to pick up some great companies and bargain-basement prices.  [more]

I give myself an "A" in investing for now. So far so good.

Well, I closed the week with my player rating in the 90th percentile.  WooHoo!!  I am very happy.  I got my accuracy close to my desired goal of 80%, (at 79.41% I am close, just need another pick or two to go my way).  Right now, I need score points, as that is the area that I am lacking in, (score only 188 points, but then I have only been in the game for 3 weeks and only have 34 picks, so that is not too bad with that few stocks in that timeframe).    [more]

I can't seem to count. Hopefully I do better analyzing stocks.

April 10, 2008 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: OHI , PTNR , SNHY

A friend pointed out to me that I said in my last blog post that I found 36 stocks to add to my portfolio but that my portfolio only containted 32 stocks.  Not sure how the discrepancy came up.  I reviewed my list of stocks and added a couple more.  There were a few others that after further review didn't meet my criteria for inclusion at this time, (mainly due to technical and not fundamental factors), so I no longer have 36 stocks on my Buy list.  Maybe next month a few of these stocks will turn around and I will be able to put them back on the buy list.  Until then, I have 34  what I consider good stocks.

I'm a little disappointed in my PTNR and OHI picks.  I'll have to keep an eye on them.

OHI has one of its tenents going through bankruptcy, and they have also loaned this tenent some money, and there is concern that the tenent may vacate its leases and that OHI won't get paid back.  OHI recently had a press release that stated that its leases were important to the health and continuation of the tenent, (which is reorganizing in bankruptcy and not liquidating, so continuation concerns are valid), so OHI did not think they would take a big hit from this tenents problems, as the market is assuming.   I'll have to keep an eye on these development to see if they will materially affect my outlook for OHI.  Until any data comes out that changes my mind regarding this pick, I have a nice 7% dividend yield to enjoy.  While I am down more than 7% in the stock, I like the outlook for the company still, so I am hanging on.

All the news that I have read on PTNR has seemed good, so I'm not sure why they are down right now.  A lawsuit against them was dismissed, they are launching new services, and everything seems to be going well.  They also have a very nice 10% dividend yield.  Since I am down less than 10% on the stock in CAPS, the dividend yield alone could pull this stock out of the cellar for me, but I still think they have a good business and that my pick will turn around in price, and that the dividend will just be icing on the cake.  We'll have to see if my optimism plays out.  [more]

So far, so good.

March 31, 2008 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: PTNR , PBT

Just wanted to mark the end of my first week with a blog post.  So far so good.  I ended the week with a player rating of 87.40, an accuracy rating of 78.79%, a score of 110.68 and have beaten the S&P500 by 3.35 percentage points.  My best pick has gained over double of what my worst pick has lost, so this is decent also.  [more]
