Shorting the big boys

August 23, 2010 – Comments (6)

At the rates things are going it looks like Obama will probably do away with dividend tax advantages since they mostly help the rich. Any short plans for year end on dividend payers?

Does China really need more cars?

August 23, 2010 – Comments (0)

I always here that Chinese cars is a great investment, usually agreed.

Then I see a 9-day traffic jam and think railroads is what they really need.

Not basing investment decisions on this, its just hilarious.

What is driving the bull market in accessories?

August 23, 2010 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: FOSL , COH , URBN

In a bad economy, I would think accessories would be suffering pretty hard.  However, there is a nice little uptrend on accessories.  I get shoes; this is a "mancession" and women always love shoes, but what is the force driving watches, belts, bags, etc. up?  Is it just back to school?

Are you getting only half?

August 18, 2010 – Comments (15)

So my main goal with stocks is to make money (duh) and so far I am not too bad at it in real life. However, I have a problem with just about everything in life where I over think them to the point where it becames too abstract. Nonetheless I get curious though, so this was my train of thought:  [more]

How do Treasuries keep going up?

August 18, 2010 – Comments (7) | RELATED TICKERS: TMF , TBT , EDV

China selling more treasuries I thought would have crushed the price.  Seriously, who is still buying treasuries thinking it is the best investment right now? I don't get it.

Gold: preserves or creates?

August 17, 2010 – Comments (7)

Two quick questions, I will post more later, gotta run:

1) If gold goes up will it actually create wealth for you, or just preserve your wealth if it moves at the same rate of inflation?

2) If miners keep mining more gold wont that push prices down the way that printing more money pushes dollars down?

Hindenburg Omen

August 15, 2010 – Comments (1)

I am no expert on the topic but the street said the criteria is all there and that it is accurate 92% of the time. I myself am expecting a market crash, and this adds to that theory. Any experts on the matter?

Buyouts

August 13, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: ALY.DL2

So every time I see a misprice in a buyout, I always want to jump and buy it.  For instance today, with ALY trading around 3.51 and the buyout offer at 4.25, thats a huge profit if the deal goes through.  But if it doesn't, the stock could plummet.

Anybody got statistics and how often these deals work out and how often they don't?

Is it too risky of a venture?
