As a lot of you know I am trying to learn more about fractional reserve banking. So quick question that always confused me...I see articles saying AIB's loan to deposit ratio is 160%, so there could be a run on the banks because they lent out more than they have- why would there be? Isnt 160% not bad at all? If the reserve requirement is 10%, then the loan to deposit could go up to 1000%...what is so bad about a loan to deposit above 100? Isnt that the whole concept of FRB? Why would there be a run on the banks when the system has been set up to keep it overt 100%? [more]
Is the general consensus that this is still a correction? I havent had computer access in a week. Everybody was calling it a correction, which made me think it would be a bear market (I am super contrarian). Its lasting too long, and Euro problems lasted long last time. Is everybody still convinced this is a normal correction?
My computer stopped working so I haven't really been on CAPS much this week, hence my score dropping, oh well [more]
This isn't directed at anybody in particular because I've seen it on other boards too. The question "how is silver and gold up and the dollar too? How can the dollar be up after qe2? This must be a conspiracy" [more]
In my microeconomics class I am learning all kinds of good stuff. I have always loved capitalism and I still do. But the one part for me thats controversial is that it makes the assumption that although resources are limited, they always replenish. Yes, capitalism eliminates deadweight loss. But could taxes that make people consume less energy be good for future generations that will have to deal with a deteriorating environment, who are not yet alive to make that decision? [more]
Does anybody here know a good amount about SLM? Seems to me as if its the same thing as FNM and FRE, except replace "house" with "education". College tuitions are outrageous, and growing too fast. Look at all of the education stocks getting crushed lately...such a low repayment rate. Won't they go bust?
I don't much care 3d
I also think that a lot of 3d movies, the 3d doesn't add much. But everybody I talk to is obsessed with it, so I do believe its the future. What's the best way to play it? Dwa, too easy to bootleg, plus its not pure 3d. Rld is way too hot, and they have a 1b mkt cap with no profits. Maybe sony for the 3d tv? What are some better 3d plays?
I am staring at january 2013 silver calls, 25 dollar strike. They are 5.85. The 2012 ones are 4.35 Talks of QE3 and QE4 and bush tax cuts are under way. Somebody pleeeeease tell me why I shouldnt buy the hell out of these before I do it.
What's the difference? DJSPW is much cheaper- its at 5 cents. Was a 10 dollar stock in may. What's the difference equity wise? Could be an interesting speculation
I don't say this stuff because I am some sort of cynic, because I am not. I have said multiple times before that tgb is a very manipulated stock. It drops like a rock, THEN the news comes out. Every single time, people tell me I'm wrong or that I'm out of line or stupid, etc [more]
Alstry, your picture of the future of America sounds like one I want to be in. Free housing and food? I am so down! Please run for congress.
I have seen at least 10 blogs, on caps, on yahoo, seeking alpha, etc saying that the "sell the news" type of event will happen. Not only do fed days end up almost every time (hence, news is not baked in), but I have seen more "sell the news will happen" than "the news is not baked in yet" blogs/posts/comments. Everybody is expecting a sell off, therefore it can't happen. Unless Ben does something reallllllly crazy that would have tanked the market regardless of if it ran up or not [more]
