Screening and Searching Tools

June 02, 2010 – Comments (6)

What is the best free or very cheap online (or not) publication to search line by line by line through the financial data of publicly listed companies? I'm looking for a source that would condense all of that information into as small a space as possible to make scanning easier. Help! Roth, tax brackets, capital gains.

December 14, 2009 – Comments (8)

I just opened a Roth IRA with Schwab. I have not funded it yet because I don't have cash lying around. However, I do have assets as equities. What is a good resource to determine whether or not I would have to pay capital gains tax on my assets should I sell (converting my individual account to the Roth)? I'd like to convert those assets to the Roth but not if I have to pay taxes today to lose the flexibility of accessing my money tomorrow without an extra 10 percent hit. For the best answer, I will disclose some personal details. I am a 23-year old english teacher in China. I make less than $10,000 a year and have less than $20,000 in assets. Help!   [more]
