A Little Optimism

December 20, 2008 – Comments (0)

There will come a day when things are at their absolute worst.  Maybe in six months or maybe in six years.  It is clearly now only in the hands of the Federal Government to take the best available steps to deal with this crisis.  Our financial system has failed (again) and our Government has become the Market.  There will continue to be much debate and, hopefully, they won't make too many mistakes.  But that day will eventually come and the next day, things will be just the littlest bit better.  This blog is not about what steps should be taken and which ones are a total disaster, but about our world after this crisis has passed.  What will our country be like for our children and grandchildren?  It is times like this that there is an opportunity to make sweeping changes that redirect our future in a positive way.  In that light, I recommend Prof. Michael Porter's ideas in an article in Business Week, "Why America Needs an Economic Strategy" as something to think about, debate and turn into action as appropriate.  [more]
