First caveat: Although stocks were up 5.44% for the month, they were only up 3.68% since the Jan 2nd open. There was a big jump between the Dec 31 close and the new year's opening price. All of the stocks in this portfolio were bought AFTER the Jan 2 open. [more]
Bought PJC this morning. [more]
I hesitated today because both of my highest rated stocks today were regional bank and I'm getting overweight in that sector. So I almost bought CFI (again) but went with the numbers and bought TSBK (at $8). It is too small to be ratable by CAPS, but it was essentially tied with CVCY.
So today's pick is TSBK for real money and CVCY for CAPS.
If that's too hard for you, try a softer alternative pick, CFI (upholstery).
But I'm going with ROCK for today.
RJET looks tempting, despite it's recent pop as does another airline, DLAKY. [more]
How about a big fat 5.3% dividend and 0.5 P/S ratio?
Meanwhile MHK is a perpetual runner-up. Maybe someday.
I'm looking hard at KCAP, NUVA and SIMO for Thursday.
Today's pick is one you've probably never heard of: JSHLY [more]
I've been looking at FIBK for awhile, regional bank in the Montana-Wyoming (i.e., Bakken) area with great value numbers and potential for growth with the growth of the region. Nice 3.3% dividend. [more]
Today's pick is CYOU, Chinese Internet Gaming.
Fast growth, low valuations.
My third foreign stock of the week and I just added DLAKY to my watch list.
I just go where the screens and filters point me.
I've owned CYOU before, should have held on to it.
Tough choice today from a lot of appealing options but the self-imposed discipline here is to try to pick the one (no more, no less) best stock each day. Not that I'll ever pick the obscure equity that soars on that particular day, but by my own metrics and criteria, the one stock that best fits. [more]
Today's pick is also my first time ever buying an OTC stock: AGESY, the insurance company based in Belgium. It's also currently my only European stock. PEG isn't the best metric, but 0.1 is about as good as PEG gets. [more]
PKX, South Korean steel maker with crazy low valuations.
In other news, I cherry picked three stocks off of Sabrient's just-released "Baker's Dozen" list for 2013 and added them to CAPS and to my watch list for possible future purchase:
ZAGG: classic GARP, ready for a break out.
Yesterday's pick, CNO went up 2.4%.
One of last week's picks (PRCP) jumped almost 10% yesterday.
All 6 picks this year are beating the index (VTI).
I've been working a new screening system, starting with Zack's #1 picks and then filtering down to about 7 picks a day from which I pick my one favorite based on the #s and a little bit of intuition (I don't really trust my intuition much as my intuition tends to run with the herd). It's been working/outperforming very nicely so far but time will tell. Tonight's (010713) pick was CTB, closing at 25.68 on 1.08.13. I bought 300 shares at tomorrow's opening price. [more]
