Geo-politics: Russia vs. Georgia (the country not the state)

So after a lot of tension building and some small skirmishes larger scale fighting broke out in the Georgian break away province of South Ossetia.  Russian tanks have moved into the province and Russian planes have bombed territory inside Georgia.  Georgia has shelled areas inside S. Ossetia, killed Russian "peacekeepers" and claims to have shot down two Russian warplanes.  It's hard to say which side initiated/escaleted the hostilities since there is a lot of finger pointing on both sides, it's not even really that important.  What is important is it gives Russia a chance to flex it's muscle and if it comes out of this scrape in good shape it can be bad for the west.  [more]
