With the major US airlines announcing cost cutting and capacity cutting, leaving market share for anyone who cares to pick it up (LUV?), I asked myself a question. Why cannot they make it work? There are international airlines which are profitable, but they are blocked from the US market. What is the difference? All airlines pay the same for the fuel, pay the same for the airplines. The only difference I see is labor cost and management of operations. I am guessing the US labor costs are higher, but are they 100% responsible? Probably not. Then the only thing that remains is , - operations. The US airlines have been protected from international competition. It seems that let them to reamain mediocre while other airllines around them competed and improved.We should open the US airline market to internationals . I am hoping then we will get to experience something called "customer service". [more]

I noticed that investing in Russia is getting more popular. Even IBD started featuring Russian stocks and that tells you something. It is understandable, the US economy is doing poorly, China and India are starting to cool off, and you can put only so much money in Brazil. So, what is left? Not much, but Russia should continue doing well for the next 2-3 years, at least, as long as there is demand for oil. [more]
