Some of my biggest investing mistakes to date

April 30, 2009 – Comments (21)

I have a personal philosophy of always trying to look back on mistakes I've made and spend at least as much time understanding why I screwed up as I do trying to understand why something went well.  So here are some of my worst moves on the stock market to date (and they are pretty bad) and a thought or two about each one.  [more]

restaurant stocks - who saw this coming?

April 30, 2009 – Comments (22)

Quietly and almost without fanfare, restaurant stocks have been perhaps the biggest performers on the market since the early March lows.  Who is going to claim to have seen that coming?  I don't believe you if you do.  I own just 2 restaurant stocks, and reviewed a third before deciding not to buy it (BAD CHOICE!!!!).    [more]

if the unions come to own GM and Chrysler, can I still buy American cars?

April 28, 2009 – Comments (3)

I have in my adult life been a loyal patron of American cars.  Largely this is because I just like what they have to offer lately - C6 Corvettes, the Caddy CTS, etc.  But in part this is out of a sense of national pride and loyalty to my fellow citizens.  [more]

who's buying into the big dip tomorrow?

April 27, 2009 – Comments (2)

Mondays have been the weakest days of this entire rally.  Mondays are on average well down, even considering that one radical +55 Monday.    [more]

intrinsic stimulus and anti-stimulus in the US economy right now

April 21, 2009 – Comments (0)

Aside from massive government spending (lets just assume that is stimulating something), layoffs (clearly anti-stimulating) and everything thats talked about often, we have a variety of other dynamics at play in the US economy right now.  [more]

sentiment remains extremely bearish, what does that mean for the coming months?

April 12, 2009 – Comments (8)

Sentiment on the web remains extremely bearish, extremely bearish.  I've spent alot of time reading CAPs this weekend, and by a loose count bearish entries must outnumber bullish ones 5:1.  In fact, severely bearish commentaries remain basically the norm, and extremely bullish commentaries practically don't exist.    [more]

just a quick note for all the bears

April 09, 2009 – Comments (42)

I don't mean to gloat, that is not my intention.  And I don't pretend to have even any idea what the short term future holds for the stock market.  And I do not doubt that we will go lower in the coming months.  And in and among some good moves, I have made a great, great many mistakes.  And I don't wish harm on anybody.  [more]
