First and foremost, a 2-day-late happy fathers day to all my fellow fathers.  Mothers sort of get a better day than we do.  Most teachers are female (in elementary anyway) and mothers day falls during the school year, so they get big cool gnarly presents, while we, with our day falling in summers, tend to get at best a "hey dad, its your day" and a collection of texts, emails, and phone calls. In the end I think its likely that we will die happier as great fathers but poor investors than vice-versa.    [more]

I have an investing experiment that I have long wanted to run, and I think the time is right.  We online investor/bloggers live in a wild world.  Yahoo message boards full of people claiming this and claiming that and where 90% of the posts are nothing more than short term price predictions.  We have guys claiming to be professional money managers with millions peddling t-shirts, we have people giving interviews just to talk their book, and sometimes they wear bow ties.  We have permabears and permabulls and seeking alpha if  you ever really want to hear the bearish side.  We have people hiding behind internet IDs flaming and conspiracy theorizing and panicking and pontificating.  Its nuts.  [more]
