Investor Know Thyself!

July 29, 2010 – Comments (0)

I hope everyone enjoyed my last post and was able to profit from it. Based on recent market actions lately there doesn't seem to be too much confidence in anything in the market these days. All everyone needs is a reason to sell. While I am busy researching my next post which is a pretty interesting company, I wanted to focus on something this week.  [more]

Grow Some Hard Profits With This Stock!July 22, 2010tags: Domtar, forestry, paper, stocks, valueby valuevulture

In our search for value stocks, it usually leads us to very unconventional investments. Most stocks considered value plays are unloved, misunderstood or generally hated for whatever reason by investors. A stock becomes a value stock because something has happened which makes them very unattractive compared to sexier offerings such as Apple Inc. In my search, Domtar (UFS) is no exception to this.  As a added benefit to my readers, I am a full time forrest products buyer which gives me an added understanding of both this company and this industry.  [more]

Look out below!

As the details of the FED meeting today with congress, Bernake has admitted that there is now a weaker outlook on the economy going forward. He is prepared to interven in case of a slowdown. Everyone is nervous of a possible weak back to school sales which could be a disaster and leave retailers with  excess inventories. Back to school sales are a barometer of what you can expect for Christmas sales. The teens are not spending as much when they cannot find their traditional part time work or their parents are unemployed. Unemployment for the under 20 age group is at 25%!  [more]

Don't be naked!

July 18, 2010 – Comments (1)

While I am still working on my next research post which should be very interesting for all my readers, I wanted to comment about this weeks events which have been very interesting to say the least. We started off with a bang with Alcoa earnings but ended the week with a clueless fed, horrible econ numbers and generally bad bank earnings numbers. I guess the new up is when you don’t lose as much money as the year before.  [more]

Trouble in the Land down under

July 03, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: FXA

To those who may have grown up during the 80′s there was this comedy called “Crocodile Dundee”. It was about an outback game hunter thrown into the streets of NYC and how out of place he looked while trying to prevent the damsel in distress from getting killed by drug runners. Based on previous market actions of the  past few sessions over a couple of months, the Aussie dollar is beginning to look just as out of place. Don’t get me wrong, I am by no means a short or do I actively engage in the process of finding shorts. I just can’t handle the emotional pressure of being exposed to a trade that can literally bite my ass cheeks off. I value my sleep above all else. However, sometimes in my search for the next investment idea, it can lead me to a weird tangent in a direction I would never suspect.  [more]
