Favorite Caps features: Sectors

May 18, 2008 – Comments (0)

I thought I would take a few postings to talk about my favorite Caps features, so far. (After all, they keep getting added, and I only do this for fun and research, so I have not explored absolutely everything.)  [more]

Modest heights: my highest scores on Caps

May 17, 2008 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: MNTA , ABB

Well, the last week has been good to me on Caps. My All-Star charm came back and stayed, at least for now. My score went up a lot, and my Accuracy and Average Pick Rating all improved. This should be mostly due to general market interaction with my current picks, because I only made 3 new ones, and ended 2 old ones. Sometimes playing Caps (or investing :-) feels like being a farmer: you plant your seeds and hope for the best, but are still at the mercy of the weather.  [more]

Plumbing the depths: my lowest scores on Caps

May 13, 2008 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: EXE , SIRF

Hmm. My worst score of all time came about because of a pick I made the second week I was on Caps. As my profile states, my experience was (and is, but less so) Low, and my risk tolerance is Medium. At that point, though, I was still taking risks that would more resemble High :-)  [more]

Today's charm (and last in the current series): Score Club 100

May 11, 2008 – Comments (5) | RELATED TICKERS: SOHU , MNTA , ABB

Since I started my blog with my ephemeral All-Star charm (once again lost), and have discussed my Score Leader charm (ditto), at last I come to the first of the charms that once gained, I actually feared to lose, the Score Club 100. When my first pick that came to pass 100 points did so, I became aware of the whole Score Club set. I was happy, and then worried. What if the score dropped. What then?  [more]

Today's charm: 5+ Helpful Pitches

May 10, 2008 – Comments (0)

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm running low on charms to discuss. Soon, I will be turning to other features of Caps that folks might find more interesting anyway :-)  [more]

Today's charm: Blogger

May 09, 2008 – Comments (0)

Well, this was inevitable. When I started blogging, I decided to first talk about my charms, and to let the random order in which they are displayed determine which one to use each day (skipping the ones I've already talked about).  Well, after All-star (fickle, fickle, All-star :-), Bankruptcy, Score Leader (fickle, fickle Sc- oh, never mind :-), 100 in 100, Most Helpful Pitcher, Score Club 200, and Underdog, I am down to only Blogger, 5+ Helpful Pitches, and Score Club 100. Unless I quickly earn some more charms, I am running low.  [more]

Today's charm: Underdog

May 08, 2008 – Comments (3)

Hmm. As of today, there are only 4030 players with the Underdog charm (Achieved more than 100 score points in underperform calls). I would have expected many more than that. And as I have stated before in this blog, I don't actually do short investing, so when I make an underperform pick, that corresponds in real life to me not investing.  [more]

Today's charm: Score Club 200

May 06, 2008 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SOHU

Since I am letting the random display of the lucky charms on my Caps page decide when I write about them, it happens that today the Score Club 200 charm showed up before the Score Club 100 charm. I have one pick, SOHU, that is over 200, but I have one other that is still warming up, now being over 178. If it makes 200, I'll give it equal time.  [more]

Today's charm: Most Helpful Pitcher

May 05, 2008 – Comments (1)

At first, I almost never made a pitch; I was too green and too shy to say anything. But then I noticed that I had some good scores, and some of my picks had directly followed what I had expected. So, I just started writing a line or two (usually very short and pithy) explaining my reasoning for making the pick I did at that time.  [more]

Today's charm: 100 in 100

May 02, 2008 – Comments (4)

I started in Caps with very little knowledge of the details of picking stocks, and have still only learned certain rudiments, in part because my earliest picks were successful, particularly at first. Over time, I evolved a method for making picks, but to my taste it is still far too much "gut" checks rather than science. However, it was enough to get me the 100 in 100 charm, and that early success was enough to encourage me to keep playing while at the same time it discouraged me from learning more detailed ways to understand why I was making my picks.  [more]

Today's charm: Score Leader

May 01, 2008 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: DRIV

I once had and then lost Score Leader for another stock, early on. However, by the time I learned what it meant, I had lost it, and never found for which stock pick it had been.  [more]
