Why You Can’t Afford Not to Invest in “Growth” or Growth Investing Visualized

April 06, 2007 – Comments (2)

Although the dichotomy between growth and value investing styles is likely a false one, there is a very real dichotomy in expectations among investors that would place themselves in one of the two categories.  Value investors are first and foremost looking not to lose money, but they base their investments upon stocks that will only grow to what they are worth today with that whole intrinsic value and DCF calculation.  Buy at a discount to today’s value is the seeming mantra of the value investor.    In contrast, the growth investor buys stock not for a return to today's value, but for tomorrows returns.  This blog is about what happens when tomorrow’s returns come today.  [more]

With that good news, although I firmly believe CAPS will help identify the best stock picks (and pickers) over time, it has shown me that sometimes, the best investing move is doing nothing.   [more]

Crocodile Tears

December 11, 2006 – Comments (4)

I read the prospectus. I searched the internet. I Google-alerted both CROX and Crocs and saw the stories. I did my DD. I put together the spreadsheets, I went to the stores. I scoured the papers for ads. I saw the silly looking shoes. My 2 year old fell in love with them and couldn't wait to grow into a pair. She readily absorbed and recognized the Logo. Now three, she will choose to wear the "Crocodile" shoes, regardless of weather. And for those who care to know, they don't do anything for her in the snow. But in the spring of '06 - I was ready to invest in CROX. But why didn't I?  [more]
