Daring Lake Research Facility

July 28, 2010 – Comments (2)

I am on the Tundra close to the Arctic circle at Daring Lake Research Facility.  This is the type of camp that could be set up for geological exploration camp looking for minerals, or in this area, diamonds.  BHP, Rio Tinto and others have mining claims and there is a diamond mine about 50 km away.    [more]

North of Yellowknife

July 20, 2010 – Comments (2)

On the 22nd I head up to Yellowknife and then catch a twin otter plane 300km further north on the 23rd to a science research camp, with organizers, another teacher and about a dozen high school students.  It is an opportunity for high school students to see the kind of research graduate students are doing.  I am not sure how much internet access I will have.  I fly back to Yellowknife on August 2nd.  Should be interesting.  If I have internet access I will write about some of the research.  [more]

July 10, 2010 – Comments (2)

I just found this graph of new home sales in one area so striking, I had to link to it.  The graph shows new home sales have dipped to 10% of what they were at the peak.  Amazing.
