I haven't trusted dividend yields for decision making for a while now because I believe squeezed margins are going to squeeze dividends, and I have blogged about it in Loss of Dividend Spending. [more]

Calculated Risk had a post about falling rents, and I immediately remembered a research paper out of the University of BC which I took one look at and my first comment was that the research was poor. [more]
Last year I was obsessed with watching the market as I expected serious cliff diving and the market held awfully well. So, I adjusted my thinking to figuring it was going to be a gradual decline and then in the last couple months the decline has been quite rapid overall. [more]
Boy, am I behind. This one is from 5 days ago, with retail sales showing a decline of 2.8% over September and 4.1% over October a year ago. I love the title, Conspicious Correlation. [more]
Dell is a stock that I looked at in 2006 and failed to understand how it could possibly be priced at about 10 times the book value of its assets, along with a few others in the technology sector. [more]
This release got my attention on Ricmond minerals, although I've had no time to do further research. They have found copper assays at 4%. I believe Bingham in Utah is about 0.67% now, as in the range of many copper mines. Better grade means more profitable, plain and simple. [more]

I think it was utterly wrong to increase the FDIC insurance. I completely disagree with a 100% insurance with no deductible to the insured. That first 100k should have a 5% deductable. Banks have behaved irresponsibly and depositors have gone after high yields without concern for consequences. [more]
Market beat has a post on GM, it is officially a small cap now. Those that are down grading it are so late in doing so.

I swear, Gordon Campbell is one of my biggest nemisis and has been since the idiot was Mayor Vancouver. Under this idiot BC has run up debt like never before. We just came out of an absolute boom and they only just managed to balance the budget when you are supposed to be paying back debt during booms. Instead the debt went up by something in the range of 50% during the good years... [more]
