July 27, 2009 – Comments (5) | RELATED TICKERS: SSRI , SLV , SLW

Not that I think Silver Standard has any possibility of bankruptsy, but using this extreme example helps put the risk/reward trade-off into perspective.  [more]

Minimum Wage Increase : A Zero-Sum Game

July 26, 2009 – Comments (0)

Let me start by saying that I don't advocate the minimum wage law in the least. It is essentially a unemployment law and a celing for employment not a floor. But avoiding that discussion, the coming increase in the minimum wage can do no good whatsoever.   [more]

Silver: A Must Read For Those Who Believe In The Silver Story & The Implications For The Miners

July 21, 2009 – Comments (6) | RELATED TICKERS: SLW , SLV , SSRI

Like Gold, most people dismiss silver mostly because their is a stigma among the mainstream that label those who embrace this metal as having some type of fetish. This comes out of sheer ignorance - as silver is the metal of the future. Silver plays two roles, of which both are of great importance. To avoid the much talked about inflationary hedge aspect, I will write just a few sentences for those unaware of this charateristic.  [more]

The Implications of Goldcorp's Penasquito Mine For Silver Wheaton

July 20, 2009 – Comments (0)

It is often hard to be bullish on the precious metal miners during the summer doldrums as the price action tends to be less than encouraging. But this time around, these miners have held up very well, in addition to some exciting news coming from the complex. Yes the excitement over Newmont's(nem) Boddington mine and the outright ownership it aquired, but that isn't the only news worth a mention in some world class mines ready to commence production in the near future.  [more]

What Could Turn Out To Be One Of The Most Profitable PM Miners

July 17, 2009 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: LIHR.DL , AUY , AEM

Yes we are back to this debate again, which is the best play on the precious metals. Will it be a junior, yamana, Agnico, the list goes on. But you don't often hear Lihir thrown around in that conversation. I'm positive it is because of their track record. But take a look at a  some commonly used metrics: Market value to NAV = .39. You could do more of course but you would find all those metrics put Lihir among the cheapest in the group. But wait..There's more.. The largely overlooked fact of their small but potentially huge Africa mines could catapult Lihir very close to the 2m oz per annum level.  Yes, they continue to struggle with Ballarat, but the company was not expecting great to news to come from this mine till the latter half of the year so why are investors? Aside from being one of the most pure plays on gold (Lihir Island has magnificent ore in terms of little bi-product), you get a good capital and cost structure. As Lihir has already raised the capital requirements to adopt a MOPU power grid for the island, The current valuation makes Lihir Island alone worth buying. It will produce over 1m oz a year bby itself and more likely than not drastically increase gold reserves. The proven reserves alone pushes the LOM near 20 years. But this could be a huge understatement, which I think will be the case.  In other words, Lihir is a good investment based on their flagship mine alone, but the fact that they have potentially many large catalysts makes for a ver compelling story.  This could even be a speculation play, if managment hasn't convinced you of their ability to steer the giant ship that is Lihir Island.  [more]

Exploit This Misunderstood Oil Patch Within The Complex

July 10, 2009 – Comments (0)

People have found investing in oil exploration/integrated and deep water drilling a great place to be, and with good reason. My intention is not point out any faults in these various patches of the oil complex, but to bring to light an often overlooked area. As all investors know, those who go overlooked in a bullish sector often produce higher rates of return down the road. I’m not saying this is the case with most of the oil sands, but I think it would be wise for those thinking oil will go back up over $100 or even $200 in the coming decade to investigate this promising field.  [more]

Last Chance To Get Into The PM Miners : Thank You Mindless Drones..

July 10, 2009 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: AUY , GLD , SLW

I Find it odd that the gold and silver miners were trading higher in 2007 when gold prices were much lower and cash costs were much higer. I'm not calling today the bottom in these stocks, but I will say there will be lows that we will never see again sometime between now and the end of the summer doldrums. My feeling is earnings season will set these industries apart from the rest of the market. I mean the fed did announce in their minutes released on june 25, that they will in fact replace their original plan of buying 300 Billion in treasuries with an even bigger plan which includes a total purchase of MBS, treasruies and other assets of 1.8 trillion.  [more]

Gettin Out Of Dodge : The Implications Of The Recently Released Fed Minutes

July 06, 2009 – Comments (11) | RELATED TICKERS: AUY , SLW , PM , AUY , SLW , PM

The optimism I forced myself to have is completely gone after reading over the FED minutes today. I'm currently living in Australia and know will look into becoming a citizen, if dual citizenship is an options. There is only one outcome I can rationalize now, and that of course is hyperinflation! I hope I am dead wrong but even an 10 fold increase in prices within the next 5 years is a best case scenario. Let me briefly mention the troubling comments in the minutes along with all our other problems.  [more]

Gold Miners Update: #4

July 05, 2009 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: AUY , AEM , JAGGF

I continue to remain extremely bullish on the PM miners as the so called "political elites" continue to solidify my thesis of the coming currency crisis. I have also become more attracted to silver after reading the following passage concerninig the next generation of batteries.  [more]
