Some analysts are turning bullish on Russian stocks as oil prices rise and financial issues appear to subside. According to Reuters, Bank of America's Michael Hartnett thinks Russia's oil prices were holding Russian companies down. The analyst is telling clients that there is a "huge upside" if oil crosses the $60 mark. Crude is near Hartnett's magic number, currently trading above $58 a barrel. [more]

Global Trade Depends on Cargo Ships
When you consider that two-thirds of the world’s goods are transported by sea, it's no wonder that investors would be wise to get more involved in this sector. International shipping plays a vital role in commodity trading and facilitating global trade, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. To put it in perspective, dry bulk shipping of commodities accounts for just below 40% of total seaborne freight. It’s a whopping amount of goods and a strong, high-yield sector! To learn how you can cash in on the commodity boom, you’ll want to read, “Commodities: Your Guide to Profiting Smartly.” [more]

Guest on bloomberg says we are headed into a wasted decade like Japan just had. Only one sector can still grow in this economy and its FOOD. Farms and those supplying farms will continue to grow.
Fertilizer stocks and companies selling food cheap will still grow.
I guess that could be one of the reasons that POT was given a $150 price target yesterday.
But I really like BJ & WMT at these prices.

Banks have gone well ahead of themselves right now but energy is just getting started and every year energy has its biggest gains in MAY ahead of the summer driving season. Usually energy peaks on Memorial Day. Which is the kickoff to the summer driving season.
Sort of buy ahead of the news and sell on the news mentality.

US States retooling laws to bury coal's CO2Source: Stateline.Org
Published Friday, 8 May, 2009 - 16:12 If Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) gets his way, carbon dioxide pollution that now spews from a coal-fired plant in nearby Canada instead would be siphoned off and piped 50 miles south into northeastern Montana. The gas would be compressed and cooled into a liquid and then buried some 6,000 feet below ground, with Canada footing part of the bill.
The carbon dioxide would stay there and not in the atmosphere, where it could otherwise contribute to global warming.
Clearing the way for such “carbon sequestration” projects will be no easy task, even in a coal-rich state like Montana. But sequestration could soon be a hot topic in state capitols because of federal efforts to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide pollution. The Obama administration is pushing caps on greenhouse gas production and will soon dole out more than $1.5 billion in incentives for sequestration projects from its economic stimulus package. [more]

Rockville, Md.-based Vanda plans to begin shipping the drug to pharmacies later this year. The news sent Vanda shares surging nearly tenfold to $11.25 from $1.08. The stock last traded above $11 in November 2007, and has not been above $6.59 in the last year.
Fanapt, or iloperidone, was more effective than a sugar pill in controlling symptoms of schizophrenia in clinical testing. The drug is an atypical antipsychotic, a group of relatively new drugs. Other drugs in the group include risperidone, which Johnson & Johnson markets as Risperdal, and Eli Lilly & Co.'s Zyprexa.
Approval for the drug was delayed in July because the Food and Drug Administration concluded Fanapt was too similar to drugs already on the market. The agency also required more testing at the time.
The most common side effects for Fanapt in clinical testing were dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, nasal congestion, sleepiness, low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, and mild weight gain. [more]

Banks have rallied 100% to 300% depending on which bank you look at, but that was the easy money. Now to safeguard those returns many will rotate out of banks and into the energy sector again. That is the one sector which is still well below its former highs. Oil is still in mid $50's after being $147 in July 2008 Peak.
