The incompetence of central banks is shocking but I suppose it's better late than never to change your tune.  After a decade of gold sales, central banks have stopped selling.  Statistics released today from the World Gold Council confirmed this, showing that central banks sold no gold in the first quarter.  A few were buyers, notably Russia and Philippines.  Also Saudi Arabia "restated" its reserve position to 323 tons, up from 143 tons.    [more]

Just a heads up that the Mint has suspended production of gold proof and and uncirculated American Eagle coins.  Unprecedented demand is the reason.  The shortages must be getting acute as originally it was just the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle to have production suspended last year I believe.    [more]



Sovereign Debt End Game

Here's an interesting commentary on the global sovereign debt crisis.  How likely is a disaster outcome and what is the end game?  I tend to agree with the author's analysis but am interested in taking it a step further to ascertain both timing and where the chips will settle out - a difficult assignment, of course, but perhaps some thought can yield clues as to what might actually happen.  Apologies for not having more to say at this point, but I just wanted to share the article.    [more]
