Why Exxon Rocks

April 26, 2011 – Comments (17) | RELATED TICKERS: XOM

As I have indicated in the past, I'm a moderate Democrat.  I'm socially pretty liberal.  I'm a fiscal pragmatist, with no ideological hatred of the concepts of Social Security or Medicare, merely worries about the sustainability of Medicare on its current cost-trend, etc., etc.  I support Obamacare, as it will reduce costs, I believe.  I am an environmentalist, and a member of NRDC and the Sierra Club.  I was using CFCs a decade before most other people.  I have already been switching out CFCs for LEDs, just as CFCs have gone mainstream.  I just had my Honda Civic totalled and I bought a Prius to replace it.  I have a rain barrel.  I compost.   And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Exxon.  How can this be?   In short, I think most people who hate Exxon have never read an Exxon annual report or proxy statement, and also misunderstand the politics and science of climate change.  This creates consistent opportunities to purchase XOM (even if now the stock is at a cyclical high, and is not a particularly compelling buying opportunity).  [more]
