The good Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

October 24, 2007 – Comments (1)

There are few pop culture phenomenons I've come across in life that I can genuinely say "Yes, this has meaningfully improved my quality of life." In fact, I can only think of one: Chuck Norris facts. Well, here's a new Chuck Norris fact: Chuck Norris is throwing his considerable clout behind Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.  I'm not making this one up.  I think this opens the door to several new Chuck Norris cracks:  [more]

Quick Check In

October 23, 2007 – Comments (0)

We're absolutely slammed with earnings today, so I'm afraid even 10 minutes of blog time isn't in the cards for day.  I've got a ton of articles to work on and an interview with the CFO of AT&T in a little over in an hour.  I'll check back tomorrow with a recap of the AT&T interview and other random musings.  I know, I know, what a bum I am...

The City Too Fly To Hate

October 22, 2007 – Comments (1)

There's just something about Atlanta that makes celebrities do stupid things that often end up with their getting arrested.  Perhaps you remember a small incident involving Ray Lewis' friends knifing some dude after the Super Bowl?  How about The Gold Club trial, which involved half of America's pro athletes?  It is pretty easy to get in trouble in Atlanta.  The midtownish area is home to Buckhead, which is a major club/party district.  East Atlanta has the Virginia Highlands, which is another meat market-type area.  More importantly, though, Atlanta is renowned for its strip clubs.  [more]

Lessons from Black Monday

October 19, 2007 – Comments (3)

20 years ago today, the Dow dropped 23% in a single day.  Ouch.  A lot of people lost a hell of a lot of money that day.  Worse, they did so at our expense.  How so?  There are some quality lessons to be taken from that disasterous day.  [more]

On Banks & Quarterbacks

October 18, 2007 – Comments (0)

I'm not sure which is bothering me more: Bank of America's terrible earnings this morning and its ripple effect, or the fact that Byron Leftwich is now the starting quarterback of the Falcons.  How the mighty have fallen.  [more]

An Obvious Mispricing?

October 17, 2007 – Comments (3)

Generally speaking, regional banks are kind of a boring idea.  I've found an interesting play in the space, though, that appears to be obviously mispriced...  [more]

The Senate & My Birthday

October 16, 2007 – Comments (2)

My birthday was yesterday -- one year closer to old age (30).  Yikes.  Fortunately, I was able to have a good bit of fun on the day, including a behind-the-scenes meandering at the Capitol building.  [more]

Skype's Revenge

October 12, 2007 – Comments (0)

Last week, I had a bit of fun at eBay and Skype's expense regarding the much written about write down.  Well, Skype has struck back -- the money I had deposited in my Skype account some time ago is now effectively dead. (Touche, Skype)  [more]

Cut Travis Johnson Some Slack

October 11, 2007 – Comments (0)

I wanted to cover this ground yesterday, but had too much material and didn't want to cram what I thought was a good subject: America needs to cut Travis Johnson some slack.  [more]

The Fish's Name & Chevron

October 05, 2007 – Comments (0)

I have named the fish.  That's right, there is no vote.  The response from the folks who frequent this blog and from Fools around the office was obvious. What's the fish's name?  [more]

I got some great feedback from folks yesterday on names for soon-to-be-delivered fish.  Let's whittle down the list and talk oil sands, while we're at it.  [more]
