The Toyota Way -- Damage Control

Despite the great lengths to which Toyota has gone to minimize the effects of a spate of recalls, the damage continues to spread like a California wildfire.  For a company who's sterling reputation for quality and customer service has been the bar that all the other manufacturers aspired to, this turn of events is truly shocking.  But Toyota's handling of the problems has been so bungled you have to wonder if Akio Toyoda is really prepared to lead the company bearing his name out of the abyss or if he's in acute denial.  [more]

As I've pondered what to write about for my second blog it finally dawned on me to stick to the things I have a pretty good understanding of.  There really aren't that many to pick from, so the choice shouldn't wasn't that difficult.  With the flurry of events unfolding in the auto industry, it seemed like there was enough cannon fodder to give it a whirl.  [more]

Yeah Baby!

Serial acquirer Natus Medical is at it again, with an agreement to purchase Alpine Biomed for $43M and change.  Normally when the buyer claims it will assimilate the new business and make it accretive to earnings in the quarter ahead I'm inclined to view that with a high level of skepticism.  But, the track record for BABY in its previous acquisitions is impeccable -- Hawaii Medical (July 2009), Neurocom International (October 2008), Olympic Medical (October 2006), Bio-Logic Systems (February 2006).  [more]
