Long YSI and PLD

February 28, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: PLD , YSI

Busy day of new swing trades. I've got four positions working for me, the last two of which were added this afternoon, and that puts me at about 30% of committed capital. With tomorrow being the beginning of the new month, we'll see if the market can continue to work its beginning of the month magic by rallying strong tomorrow morning. It's worth mentioning that last time I played PLD (shown below), I made about 32% on the trade. We'll see if history repeats itself.   [more]

8 Breakouts To Keep An Eye On

February 28, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: PLD , AXU , YSI

The market has given back a lot of those early gains, and now poses a strong possibility of even going red on the day. Remember though too, that tomorrow is the first trading day of the month, and 5 out of the last 6 of those, have seen some pretty sizable gains dating back to September, which in my opinion is worth playing.   [more]

NYSE Reversal Indicator

The Reversal Indicator below has been getting thrown around the past couple of weeks by the market's crazy machinations. Simply put, there is a lot of uncertainty in this market, and it is being reflected as such in the indicator below after reversing mid-stream to the upside just before the reversal that we saw in the broader markets last week. Further downside in the market next week, and the Reversal Indicator will show the S&P in a full-fledge correction.  [more]

Long PCS At $13.70

February 25, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: NFLX , OAS , TMUS

Busy morning for me so far. Sold SRZ for a nice 8% gain, while cutting short a couple of trades - Trina Solar (TSL) which is feeling the weight of a bad report from FSLR, while NFLX just refuses to bounce with the rest of the market. Strong up-days like what we are seeing today are excellent opportunities to see where the dead weight is in the portfolio. So those two stocks were dump for losses of 1.5% in each. I've also added PCS this morning which is performing very well so far, as is OAS at $32.71 which is climbing nicely too (I'll provide a chart later).   [more]

February 24, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: TSL

Another trade for you to munch on with Trina Solar (TSL) at $30.24. I'm expecting that over the course of the next couple of days, that we'll see at the very least a mild bounce in these markets. For one, the bulls just don't give up easily - especially those dip-buyers, and two, those who missed out on this massive rally, are going to be looking to put some capital to work with the cheaper prices we are seeing across the board. As a result, and it may be short lived, I think there will be some buying interest coming back into the markets in the coming days.   [more]

13 Lottery Stocks Under $10

February 23, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: ENERQ , LOCM , CPST

Unlike any of my other screens, this screen focuses on stocks trading under $10/share, and have a market cap of around $1 billion or less. As for the variables that I used in the screen, I focused on fundamentals, particularly companies that have a healthy balance sheet with little debt to speak of, with a strong prospect for rapid sales and growth in earnings, as well.

Now be aware, that these kinds of stocks carry huge risks to them. A simple downgrade, news event, or missed earnings target, can derail these small-cap stocks in a heart beat. But if you have some capital that you want to roll the dice with, these stocks will give you a good start in your research.  [more]

21 Stocks That Are Breaking Down

February 22, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: LIFE , MD , ELN.DL

The market is at a key inflection point here trading at the 20-day moving average. Whether it holds or not is anyone's guess. In the past we have seen some buying come flowing in at this level, while the sell-off on 1/28 saw us break and close below the moving average. For the dip-buyers, this would be an ideal place to start propping up the market but so far today, any attempt by the bulls to rally the market has been met with extraordinary selling.   [more]

Some selling that has a lot of similarities in reason to the one we saw back on 1/28. So far the dip buyers have put some capital to work to keep the selling from getting out of hand, but some damage has been done to the intraday trendlines that were in play. However on the daily, this sell-off won't raise many eye-brows, unless we see some follow through in the coming days.   [more]

NYSE Reversal Indicator

February 19, 2011 – Comments (0)

Here's the Updated NYSE Reversal Indicator, which is interesting, because in mid-stream we've seen a full-out reversal back to the upside, which rarely ever happens. So at this point we are headed for another top-down signal once it hits the upper extremes. Last time this happened we actually did get some selling for a couple of weeks, but the amount and extent of it was very minimal. So with this Fed induced rally, it becoming very difficult to say how much in the way of indicators showing a top or potential reversal in the markets will really play out, because with the Fed conducting POMO on nearly an every-day basis, you can expect there to be a bid underneath this market preventing an extended sell-off. .  [more]

Dedicated To All The Bears Out There

February 17, 2011 – Comments (0)

It was a valiant effort, but at the end, the bulls managed to get this old bear to pull the plug on his short positions. Fighting the Fed, headed up by the almighty Bernanke and his endless supply of cash, was just to much to combat. In the end, I am confident about the devastating effects of what QE2 will have on this great country and its economy, but while I know I'll be ultimately be proven right, there is no reason to bleed profusely from it in the process. I know, I know, the old saying of when the last bear has thrown in the towel, the market will finally take its course, and while that may hold true, I don't have any desire to be the last one out the door (though the way everyone has become so bullish on this market, I'm beginning to wonder if I truly am the last bear in existence).   [more]

NYSE Reversal Indicator

February 13, 2011 – Comments (0)

With two consecutive weeks of price rallying in the broader markets, the NYSE Indicator is showing a reversal in mid-stream, which does not occur all that often. In a little more than two years, we've seen four attempts by the market to reverse the course. Of those four times, three of them were traps that resulted in false reversals that ultimately saw the indicator get back on course and head back in its original direction. The one time this did not occur, was back in September when the market finally bottomed from the summer sell-off and bounced hard and fast resulting in the longer trend that the market is still a part of to this day. But when it did pre-maturely reverse like it did back in September, it was pretty close to the bottom of the indicator already, while the other three fakeouts were in midstream, much like we are right now.   [more]

No surprise, the S&P and Nasdaq were down hard overnight, yet the market finds it in its power to snap right back at the open. At this point, we've seen it occur 1.2 million times since the March '09 lows. Yet those of us who are bears, see the pattern, yet we don't respond to it very well. Quite the axiom of life as a bearish trader (of late). And why is that you say? Perhaps because we have this underlying belief that once we try to capitalize on the pattern, that will be when it no longer works. I'm not sure, but I do know, this hasn't been the most enjoyable time of trading for me of late with me being skewed to the short side, the market continues to punish those who believe we've seen a top in this market.   [more]

S&P Intraday Chart Analysis

February 09, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SPY

Very bulish chart no doubt, but what you will want to pay close attention to today, is whether the slight weakness we are seeing, jeopardizes the existing trend-line, because if it breaks, it could create a snowball effect, where the market starts seeing heavier selling come creeping into the pictures - which is a strong possibility considering how light the volume has been of late to the upside and how steep the trend-line actually is, which as you all well know, makes me doubt the legitimacy of this recent move off of the 1/28 sell-off. So keep an eye on this chart for gauging the intra-day health of this market. Currently support rests at 1320.   [more]

15 Stocks Ready For A Short Squeeze

February 07, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: BHS.DL , CONN , CMLS

Below is a list of small-cap stocks that have been heavily shorted by the street, and should the market continue to rally, these stocks could see their  share price launch into the stratosphere (if they haven't begun so already) because of the bears being forced to cover their short positions in the stock. Based on the number of shares that are being borrowed, for some of these stocks, it could take as many as 50-70 days to cover all the shares held short in the individual stock.

If you don't know what a short squeeze is, that is where a stock starts to rise rapidly, and as the trend continues to escalate, the short sellers will likely want out. For example, say a stock rises 5% in one day, those with short positions may be forced to liquidate and cover their position by purchasing the stock. If enough short sellers buy back the stock, the price is pushed even higher.  [more]

S&P Weekly At A Glance

This is worth taking a look at, to see a visual of the S&P on the weekly chart, and show just how similar in scale, slope, and pattern the market action of this rally off of the September lows is to the rally we saw from January through August of last year. Even more so, pay close attention to the last two candles before the dump in April '10 and the last two candles of the present market and you'll find the similarities are jaw-dropping. Now it doesn't mean it is going to play out exactly the way it did last year, but instead, should be taken as a warning sign for the bulls, that adding new longer-term positions at the current price the market is offering them at, should be deemed risky, and the better route would be to hold off until those prices get a tad-bit cheaper.   [more]
