16 Takeover Stocks

June 28, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: LPX , XL , HIG

Below is a list of 16 potential takeover targets based on value and the ability to acquire the company. I didn't put a limit on the size of the company, so there are some 'Gigantors' in the list below, but nothing like a Wal-Mart or Microsoft or anything close to it. All of the companies are acquirable and have solid financials that would make them a luring target for a bigger fish. Not everyone of these will be taken over or any of them at all (in case you were looking for some kind of guarantee), but the point is to get you started on finding some gem of an idea that could lead to a takeover. Who knows? Maybe your best trade of the year lies somewhere in the list below!  [more]

6 Stocks the Street is Buying

June 25, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: BRY.DL2 , CF , CNP

By far one of my best screens in determining who is buying what on The Street. What you will find are those stocks that, among other variables that I use, 1) Gaining an increased amount of coverage by brokerage firms and analysts, and 2) Being upgraded on a regular basis. This is a good screen to show you where the smart money is putting their capital at, especially in the current volatile market environment, without you having to actually ask them. Pretty cool, eh? What's the T2108 Looking Like

One of my most popular charts that I publish is this Worden T2108 indicator that I try to put out once a week. NYSE Reversal Indicator

June 19, 2010 – Comments (2)

Here is the weekly update on the NYSE Reversal Indicator using the advance/decline ratio with a stochastics overlay. The bottom half of the chart is the weekly candles of the S&P. The chart itself goes back almost three years. Some folks have criticized me for posting this chart recently saying that it isn't 100% accurate - but if it was as some think it must be in order to post then 1) I wouldn't be posting it - I'd save it all for myself 2) I would sell it to Goldman Sachs for an ungodly sum of money. But it isn't perfect (I wish it was) and there is always a level of error that you can expect from it. But overall, it is fairly accurate, and when the indicator hits certain extremes on the stochastics, it is often a good time to start hedging positions that are going against the direction of the indicators, or start loading up on short or long positions in respect to the direction that the indicator itself is pointing to.  [more]

My Strategy with Trading Gold

June 17, 2010 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: GLD , SPY

The one position that has been in my portfolio for about a week now, is the one that I have been relatively quiet about of late. However, if you were near any financial news channel today, you probably heard about gold hitting record highs and when you consider the chart below of the SPDR Gold (GLD), then you'll probably find yourself hard-pressed to disagree with the bullishness it exhibits. I would expect there to be further euphoria in the coming days, as folks start jumping on the bandwagon as they buy into all the myths out there that gold is going to $5,000 or some other astronomical estimate. Frankly I think gold has a better chance of seeing $500/ounce before it sees something above $3,000/ounce.  [more]

20 Highest Paying Dividend Stocks

June 17, 2010 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: WHX , NLY , MFA

A lot of investors will use market sell-offs like the one we have been experiencing over the past month, to pick up high-dividend yielding stocks on the cheap. As the stock goes down, assuming they don't cut the value of their dividend in the process, their payout goes up relative to the price per share that you pay. So, it can be said that the time to buy stocks with high dividends couldn't be better, but then again on the other hand, the risk couldn't be greater.  [more]

Shorting Strategy Going Forward

I've been pretty light in the trading portfolio these past couple of days. I still have a long position in gold (GLD), and I am day trading the SPDRs S&P (SPY) with descent success. My biggest problem scalping is that I try to get a little too 'frisky' with my trades and end up getting in and out waaaaaaay too much. As a result I have to set limits to how many daily round trips I can make in a given day. When it comes to scalping the S&P I usually like to wait until around lunch time before jumping into the trade, that way, I have some candles to trade off of (I use the S&P 5min) and general direction of the markets have been defined somewhat.  [more]

2 Stocks Prime for Shorting

June 15, 2010 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: NOVL.DL , MBLX

The two stocks below are mainly those stocks that have been on a solid uptrend of late, but are starting to show signs of breaking down along with a loss of interest by the street as a whole. So if you are looking to short this market, use the stocks below as bit of a primer to get the ideas flowing. Both stocks are pretty good on the surface when just looking at price and volume, however, what is concerning is some of the glaring bearish divergences that are popping up. One such indicator is the Time Segmented Volume - TSV that shows all of the stocks below in the negative, which is a good indicator that the longs are starting to get a bit skittish in their current positions, and will begin looking to take profits in the near future. June 03, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: RDN , IACI , BIP

Below is a list of 16 potential takeover targets based on value and the ability to acquire the company. I didn't put a limit on the size of the company, so there are some 'Gigantors' in the list below, but nothing like a Wal-Mart or Microsoft or anything close to it. All of the companies are acquirable and have solid financials that would make them a luring target for some bigger fish in the sea. Not everyone of these will be taken over or any of them at all (in case you were looking for some kind of guarantee), but the point is to get you started on finding some gem of an idea that could lead to a takeover. Who knows? Maybe your best trade of the year lies somewhere in the list below!  [more]

24 Long Setups with Stop-Losses

June 03, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SMSI , GAZ , CPSI

Here's my long-watch list right now, and as you can see it is dramatically smaller than the short-list that I am working off of - the main reason being that, the types of setups that I look for - High Reward/Low Risk - are slim pickings of late. But there are 24 long-setups with the current price (as of this post) along with the desired stop-loss that I have for each. I forgot to do it with this one, but starting next week, I'll highlight those stocks that are new to the list - just like I did with the short watch list I did earlier this week.  [more]

Trade Setups for June 3, 2010

June 03, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: FXP , CPWR

So far, the market is trying to hold on to their gains from yesterday, and maybe build on them going forward. I would love to see another 20-30 points added to the S&P. As I have been saying all along, I ultimately plan to short any rally that this market ends up putting together. So the higher the bulls want to bounce this market in the near-term, the better.

All eyes will be on the jobless claims this morning, which comes out at 8:30am EST. It will serve as a prelude to the the unemployment number that comes out at the same time tomorrow. In fact I expect trading volume to be somewhat light today ahead of that number. Other reports to watch for is the ADP Employment Report at 8:15am, Productivity and Costs at 8:30am, and Factory orders as well as ISM Non-Manufacturing Index at 10am. A very busy morning considering the number of reports to be released.

Yesterday, I had a few trades on the SPDRs S&P (SPY), scalping small price moves. Three trades in all with one of them being a loss. Overall though, I was profitable, as the loss only amounted to a quarter of the total profits that was made.  [more]

I've provided you with 4 stocks to short in addition to the 63 stocks I provided you with last night. Each of these stocks have some major downside action that lies ahead for them, and honestly expect a few of these to drop 20% or more in the coming months. For each stock, I have provided you with my desired stop-loss to get you started on managing the risk for each of these.  [more]

21 Stocks The Street Is Buying

June 02, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: AA , DBRN.DL , CBL

By far one of my best screens in determining who is buying what on the street, and it is worth noting that the last time I posted this article, it was one of my most popular articles of all-time. Below you will find those stocks that are, among other variables that I use, 1) Gaining an increased amount of coverage by brokerage firms and analysts, and 2) Being upgraded on a regular basis. This is a good screen to show you where the smart money is putting their capital at, especially in the current volatile market environment, without you having to actually ask them. Pretty cool, eh? Take a look for yourself!  [more]

Trade Setups for June 2, 2010

June 02, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: OCLR , ECPG

Overnight, the overseas markets managed not to capitulate and as a result, the futures, heading into the open, are trading in positive territory. We have a few economic reports that could shake things up a bit with ICSC-Goldman Store Sales at 7:45am ET, followed by Redbook at 8:55am and then Pending Home Sales at 10am - the latter of which will hold the biggest sway over the market.  [more]

63 Short Setups with Stop-Losses

June 01, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: G , EBIX , TTEC

My Short Watch-List just keeps getting bigger and bigger. It's like there isn't chart out there that I can't find a bearish case for, with the exception of bearish ETF's (in which the bearish case means that you go long on the stock ). With that said, there are 63 stocks in all, and about 15 new stocks to the list that you will find hightlighted below in yellow. So if you are solely interested in those that I have added since last week's post, then focus your attention on the highlighted stocks.  [more]

Past Month's Best and Worst Industries

June 01, 2010 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: PM

Here's this month's Best and Worst Industry performance. As you can see, some of the best performances happened to be by those who managed to finish just a little bit in the red. In the past, I've noticed that when that occurs, market reversals are right around the corner. So perhaps we see a bit of a pop from the markets in the next few days. A run up to 1130 or 1140 would be well-received for me to begin shorting again.  [more]

22 Highest Paying Dividend Stocks

June 01, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: AGD , AGNC , ANH

A lot of investors will use market sell-offs like the one we have been experiencing over the past month, to pick up high-dividend yielding stocks on the cheap. As the stock goes down, assuming they don't cut the value of their dividend in the process, their payout goes up relative to the price per share that you pay. So, it can be said that the time to buy stocks with high dividends couldn't be better, but then again on the other hand, the risk couldn't be greater.  [more]

Trade Setups for June 1, 2010

June 01, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: MTRX , OSIS

Welcome to a month of new trading, hoping that it is as kind to me as May was. However, markets across the world don't seem to be too welcoming of the new month as futures are showing some sharp declines heading into the open. Be careful of market reversals at this point in time - we are prime for them, and have seen them already in the past few days - so be on guard for that. As always, the beginning of the month is filled with lots of economic reports, followed by the biggest one that comes this Friday in the unemployment number.   [more]
