I thought I'd share with everyone my watch-lists. Here you get a current snap-shot of what it looks like right now, and what I'm looking to go long/short in as well. Some of those stocks listed, if they are breaking out already, I'm looking for a quick pullback to that breakout level and with the short list, you'll notice that there is a number of them rising back into heavy resistance, and others that are on the verge of a solid breakdown. As You know, recently the market has been acting a bit more sluggish, prone to more weakness, and my own personal indicators (which I do publish on the site) projecting a new wave of weakness too. I'm more concerned than I have been of late to make sure that I'm not over extended to the long side and that any position that I do take on, shows an ability to buck the market trend should it move lower. The reversal signal we had been looking for the past couple of weeks, finally came to fruition and as you'll note below we've got a clear bearish reversal, that is also confirmed by the RSI as well. Price action shows a convincing bearish wedge the S&P continues to trade in, but has not broken down and out of it yet. Heading into next week, I would be careful about adding many new long positions, trust the stops on the existing ones, and if the market shows a strong hand to the downside, it's best to believe it. Pretty good day so far - I went ahead and covered my short position in Meadwestvaco (MWV) at $28.72 from $28.50 for a 0.8% loss. That's okay though, because I have long positions in HES, MDT, and now in Weight Watchers (WTW). I jumped in at $51.10, and have largely benefited off of the sudden intraday spike in the SPX this afternoon. This will be a swing trade as well, and now that we are putting in a higher-high in the market in less than two days after breaking the previous uptrend, I think we are looking more bullish heading into next week. Nothing better than waking up to the news that the stock you swing-traded just a few days ago (and did hold overnight mind you) was bought out by Apple (AAPL) at a 60% premium from your entry price. Here begins my three part series on avoiding the pre-mature stop-out on your trading. With this series, my plan is to provide you with a couple of different ways of avoiding being stopped out when it probably shouldn't have happened. But because the market makers and institutions could see your stop-orders, they became resolved to trigger these orders. Leaving you watching from the sidelines when the stock bounces right back. I'm impressed the market hasn't sold off today, and is still fighting for positive gains on the day, which would be the first time since last week that's happened. Below I've posted the Long & Short Lazy Trades for today. If this market can put in a legitimate bounce, HES sets up for a nice gainer. I may end up adding HES to the portfolio before the end of the day, to balance out my one other short position that I currently hold. [more]

Gap downs are a beast for the bears to hold together - especially those that go bonkers in the form of -20 points or more on the S&P. I actually added today's lazy long trade Authentec (AUTH) right before posting this at $5.02. It's one of the better setups that I've seen out there today is currently trading where I recently got in at. But I have to credit @brysenp for the find. [more]

By just looking at price and volume on the charts below, you won't see an obvious short setups, in fact all of them are trading above their 50-day moving average, and most are in a nice uptrend. But using indicators like the RSI, Average True Range (ATR) and Time Segmented Volume, there's no doubt a number of bearish divergences are coming about, and once we get that breakdown, these stocks should cause the longs to surprisingly and suddenly run for the exits in these names. Typically when a stock goes up after I get stopped out for a loss, or a small gain, I'm not one to care or give it much though. It happens, and will always happen. But geesh, sometimes it's just hard to ignore. Take Mellanox Technologies (MLNX) for example. I bought into this stock after it broke out and pulled back to its breakout point three days ago. All is good at this point, but over the next two days it just drops, and takes me out for a 3.5% loss. That's not what bothers me though, because I expect to be stopped out on a number of trades throughout the year. Yesterday though, now that I was out of the trade, it goes up 7% - ok whatever, no worries, but today it is up 41%... yes 41% - the best trader in the world (whoever that happens to be) can't help but be bothered by that. Moments before this post I jumped in Cobalt International Energy (CIE) at $24.22. One of the plays in this current market that has done exceedingly well for me have been the breakouts from support, and then waiting for a few days to even a week perhaps for it to pull back to that original breakout/support level. In fact, in the case of CIE, you could say that the stock 'bull-flagged' its way back to support which is pretty impressive and not nearly as common as the other setup type I just described. [more]

Over the past four trading sessions, the market has no doubt looked weak. Prior to what is at this point, a four-day pullback, the markets were sitting at extremes and begging for a pullback. Now that we've got it, it's important to see the manner in which it is pulling back and what we are seeing are the dip buyers on each day of trading buying up the market off of its lows, and wiping away much of the earlier day's bearishness. In fact if you look at the SPY chart, there are 3 consecutive doji candles. [more]
