10 Under $10 Lottery Specials

August 30, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: OMEX , AMSC , BRCD

Unlike any of my other screens, this stock screen focuses on stocks trading under $10/share, and have a market cap of around $1 billion or less. As for the variables that I used in the screen, I focused on fundamentals, particularly companies that have a healthy balance sheet with little debt to speak of, with a strong prospect for rapid sales and growth in earnings, as well.

Now be aware, that these kinds of stocks carry huge risks to them. A simple downgrade, news event, or missed earnings target, can derail these small-cap stocks in a heart beat. But if you have some capital that you want to roll the dice with, these stocks will give you a good start in your research.  [more]

My Top 13 Defensive Stock Plays

August 29, 2011 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: MA , V , MON

Here is my list of top defensive plays in this highly volatile and mainly bearish market. If you're looking for some nice defensive stocks to weather this storm, yet be in position for the possibility of a sustained move to the long side, then take a look at the list of stocks below that are more defensive than growth oriented. They are stocks that shouldn't see a lot of volatility compared to stocks that you'd find in the Russell and they won't fall through the floor like them either, should this market continue to go lower. In essence, these stocks represent a good balance of companies that are dependable, stable, usually collect a respectable dividend and hold their value all at the same time.  [more]

5 Breakouts and 2 Bounce Plays

August 29, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: HRS , BAC , TRV

Assuming the strength we are seeing in the market this morning can hold, here are 7 trade setups to add to your watch-list today. Should this market continue to march higher today, the trade setups shown below should benefit from the rally quite a bit. But as always, and even more so with the bounce plays, adhere to the stop-losses, because this market has shown especially with gap-up days, that it can change directions, with no warning.  [more]

Path of The Enlightend

August 28, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SPY

First off, I suggest reading this post from a guest on Zero Hedge.  Charles Hugh Smith repeats my own sentiments on a continuing bearish market and bullish-to-flat dollar.  Until I read his post, I was looking at the rising RSI and other indicators, and wondering if these were bullish signs.  Many times, I've seen such divergences breakdown, and turn against the "conventional" wisdom of technical analysis to my chagrin and concern.  [more]

SharePlanner Reversal Indicator

August 27, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SPY

For the first time since mid-June we are on the verge of getting a "Buy-Signal" on the SharePlanner Reversal Indicator. To say the least, this is the best sign of a market bounce the bulls have had in quite some time and with last week's market rally on the weekly chart, as well as the bullish divergence seen on the RSI and CCI indicators, I expect that over the next two weeks, we will see this market rally nicely. To say the least, I would be careful about getting too heavy to the short side in this market until we get an extreme reading to the upside, which could be a few weeks away still.   [more]

Intraday Glance At The S&P

August 25, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SPY , BAC

The pop in equities across the board was, to say the least, short-lived, as the market quickly gave up its gains and went into negative territory. Most of this is do to mini-flash crash in the German markets. We have broken some support on the daily charts with the S&P breaking its trend-line from the recent 1120 lows, and Bank of America (BAC) giving up a lot of its day's gains.   [more]

You'll find that the stocks below are sporting some pretty nice dividends, but don't just dive into one of the stocks listed below without doing first the necessary due diligence required. A lot of the dividend stocks in general, like the rest of the market, has been hit hard by the non-stop selling the market has experienced over the last month or so, and as a result, they provide much higher yields than they do, say, two months ago. So now could be one of the better times that you will have to start scaling into some of these plays, like those listed below.  [more]

What You Need To Know About In This Market

August 24, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SPY

The S&P has given up all of its gains on the day, and they were plenty, and now finds itself trading in the red. As a result, the bears are inspired by the failure to push through the 1175 price level, and keeps them from having to consider whether they should cover their shorts or not ahead of Bernanke's Jackson Hole speech for now. What I've done for you below is provide a nice layout of what the bulls need to do in order to regain control of this most unpredictable market.   [more]

After Friday's close the market found itself back at the same place it was the previous week, when it kept bouncing off of the S&P 1120 level. 8 Stocks That Only Go Up

August 19, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: GLD , EE , CF

This is by far, one of my favorite stock screens that I run. I have probably found more winning stocks (and big % ones at that) off of this screen, than any other one that I run. These stocks make it a habit to trade on their own merits and not that of the market itself. They are often overlooked, but to those who invest their capital in these stocks, the returns that the investors receive are very rewarding. So if you've been scratching your head recently as to what stocks you should be trading, then the stocks below are probably just what the doctor ordered. However, I do not recommend you going out and buying each and everyone of the stocks listed. Instead put each of these stocks in a watch-list and wait for a minor pull-back to a significant support-level.  [more]

7 Potential Takeover Stocks

August 18, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: PL , CSUN , STC

Below is a list of 7 potential takeover targets based on value and the ability to acquire the company. I do try to limit the size of the company so that there isn't anything like a Wal-Mart or Microsoft included. But all of the companies are 'acquirable' and have solid financials that would make them a luring target for a bigger fish. Not everyone of these will be taken over or any of them at all (in case you were looking for some kind of guarantee), but the point is to get you started on finding some gem of an idea that could lead to a takeover. Who knows? Maybe your best trade of the year lies somewhere in the list below!  [more]

GOOG - 2 Sides To This Coin

August 16, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: GOOGL

Google (GOOG) has made some big news of late with its acquisition of Motorola Mobility (MMI) which I think overpaid for this company, and took a hit to its stock price as a result. But GOOG has probably one of the most interesting charts out there, with a clear support/resistance level shown right through the middle of its chart, that gives a clear long/short signal depending on what side of the S/R level that price is on. At the moment, I would say the bias in GOOG is to the upside and look for it to make a move back into the lower $600's.   [more]

3 Stocks Ready for the Short Squeeze

August 16, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: CCBG , ATLC , KNSY.DL

Below are the charts of small-cap stocks that have been heavily shorted by the street, and should the market continue to rally like we have seen over the last few days, these stocks could see their  share price launch into the stratosphere because of the bears being forced to cover their short positions in the stock. Based on the number of shares that are being borrowed, for some of the stocks, it could take as many as 50-70 days to cover all the shares held short in the individual stock.

If you don't know what a short squeeze is, that is where a stock starts to rise rapidly, and as the trend continues to escalate, the short sellers will likely want out. For example, say a stock rises 5% in one day, those with short positions may be forced to liquidate and cover their position by purchasing the stock. If enough short sellers buy back the stock, the price is pushed even higher.  [more]

Fibonacci Retracement On The S&P Recent Sell-Off

So everyone is out there trying to guess how much higher this market will move before the next big leg down. And while I, by no means, believe this to be certain, and don't rule out the fact that we may have put in the year's bottom, I do recognize the global issues surrounding this market, and how the slightest hiccup in any of the financial markets markets, could reek havoc on the bulls for weeks/months to come. There's just no way to know for sure how much higher this market can go before running out of gas. However, check out the Fibonacci retracements, which combined with support and resistance levels on price, can help to filter out a lot of the noise this market is making.   [more]

Is Apple (AAPL) Worth Buying Here?

August 10, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: AAPL

Just this week, Apple (AAPL) passed up Exxon Mobil (XOM) as the largest corporation in the S&P. That is incredible for a company that sells cell phones, computers and fancy walkmans. Their recent earnings, just like all the others, blew away estimates and surged beyond $400/share. However with the recent calamities in the global markets, and its impact on US stocks, not to mention the downgrade by the S&P, shares of AAPL have taken a pretty good hit.  [more]
