Stocks still lacking conviction and direction for swing trading
I have to say, this is not an easy market to trade, which is one reason why I continue to tread lightly these past couple of weeks. There's no sense on putting up heavy positions only for the market to knock them down. But I continue to make plays here and there, because you never know which one is going to catch fire (and I've still had a number of stocks do as much), and when the market might figure itself out and start moving in a definite direction. Some solid swing trades setups to be aware of
I really don't like how this market is behaving. Maybe because where I'm at, we have a hurricane coming right our way, but it sure does seem like we are at the calm before the storm here. Lots and lots of stocks are blowing earnings, and behavior in general with indvidual stocks has been very erratic. So I'm being pretty cautious here. [more]

Look for Low Risk Swing-Trading Opportunities
Practically this entire week, I've been very hesitant to get long or short anything. I'm still holding Agrium (AGU) as a long trade, but it has yet to really do anything substantial. As it has always been for the past 2-3 years, shorting stocks has a short time-frame for success, so with us already oversold, and the Fed pumping in $80+ billion a month into the market, it is hard to want to be aggressively short. When the market was declining last week, I was gradually adding positions to the portfolio such as AAPL, AET, GWW, LMCA, HAL. Halliburton (HAL) setting up nicely to the long side this morning. I took a long position in it at $34.16. Now the question is likely to be asked, why am I still adding long positions at this juncture in the market. For one, we haven't broken down yet, and haven't broken the 1430 SPX key price level that is necessary. Secondly we are still trading in an uptrend channel off of the 6/4 lows, so its hard to load up positions to the short side (though I do hold two positions short). [more]
