Compelling PM MicroCaps Series, Volume II: Caza Gold

March 28, 2011 – Comments (51) | RELATED TICKERS: GG , AUQ , EXK

To kick-off this series in style, we're going hunting for gold south of the border with Caza Gold (Caza is Spanish fort 'the hunt'). Many of you have seen me refer to the company repeatedly since its IPO in late November, and now I aim to convey to you why this particular early-stage exploration company has attracted my attention to such a degree.  [more]

Compelling PM MicroCaps Series, Volume 1: Prelude

March 25, 2011 – Comments (13)

My regular readers are aware that I've been whispering about a few pm microcap stocks recently that I consider particularly compelling. Before diving in to the first of this series with a discussion of a specific company, I would like to take a moment to lay down something of a conceptual framework regarding this category of investment vehicle.   [more]

A Timeline of Broken Promises and Utter Fiscal Insanity

March 19, 2011 – Comments (4)

Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., director of the Office of Management and Budget, December 31, 2002, as reported in the NYTimes: "The administration's top budget official estimated today that the cost of a war with Iraq could be in the range of $50 billion to $60 billion, a figure that is well below earlier estimates from White House officials."  [more]

QE to Infinity

March 17, 2011 – Comments (8)

The phrase belongs to gold guru Jim Sinclair, but I found this corroboration by Macr Faber of the concept of QE to infinity (as a consequence of the negative feedback loop that sinclair outlined in his "formula" back in 2006) extremely compelling. Time and time again, I have found that the right guys to be listening to during this period of protracted financial crisis are the likes of Faber, Sinclair, Jim Rogers, and others who recognize the extent to which Fed interventions don't solve crises, but rather merely disguise, prolong, and even exacerbate the scale of the crisis in the final tally.  [more]

Don't Flock to the Wrong Safe Haven

March 16, 2011 – Comments (14) | RELATED TICKERS: CEF , AUQ , EXK

The Fed is presently responsible for purchasing 70% of U.S. Treasury debt issuance. Are we to imagine that sufficient buyers await to fill that void immediately upon termination of the $600 billion QEII program? Of course no such buyer/s exist to smoothly absorb the slack, and to make matters worse one of our leading foreign creditors (Japan) will not exactly be in buying mode. It's a nightmare scenario for bonds, and it's why PIMCO pulled out of Treasuries entirely.   [more]

Endeavour Silver: How Silver Is Mined, Part I

The terrific team at Endeavour Silver just contacted me to bring my attention to an educational video they've developed about the silver mining process. Part II will be out later this month, and presumably will focus on the extraction process, while Part I represents a terrific, basic breakdown of the staking, modeling, and assaying processes.  [more]

Keeping Up With News The Flow

March 15, 2011 – Comments (22) | RELATED TICKERS: CEF , GPL , AUY

I am deeply saddened that the distinct lack of wisdom that guides most of our species' misadventures upon meddling with forces we are unfit to wield. As someone who has intimate knowledge of human impacts of radiation exposure, having worked my way through a massive archive of declassified documents relating to the issue, I am also deeply concerned for anyone downwind of these reactors at distances far greater than the 30km zone delimited by the government thus far. This remains a highly dynamic situation that is definitely not under any semblance of control, despite the heroic sacrifice of the 50 workers remaining on-site at enormous personal risk.   [more]
