Bernanke Holds a Match to the U.S. Dollar

April 29, 2011 – Comments (32) | RELATED TICKERS: SLW , AUQ , AEM

I hope you find my discussion of Bernanke's latest dollar-bashing appearence of interest, and I request that you please circulate this one as you are able among your friends, family, and acquaintances. Sometimes a beautiful Friday evening after a streak of inclement whether is hardly a strategic moment to publish a discussion like this, and indeed I hope you all are out enjoying yourselves as I just was. When you next get back to your computers, however, thank you in advance for helping this article to not get lost in the shuffle of a late-Friday lull in Springtime.    [more]

Timely Guidance for Silver Investors

April 25, 2011 – Comments (52) | RELATED TICKERS: SLW , SVM , HL

I began writing this piece even before this morning's intraday reversal. It will be interesting to see whether COMEX traders can foment a follow-up push towards that $50 mark in the near-term, or whether traders turned shy as they approached and concluded that they'd come too far too fast to present a viable threat to the incredible seeling pressure that, in all likelihood, looms at $50. If they do bust straight through without a prolonged fight at $50, then you can chalk it up to commercial signal failure of an intractable sort.  [more]

Compelling PM MicroCaps Series, Volume IV: Barkerville Gold Mines

April 19, 2011 – Comments (56)

On a subconscious level, I won't deny that eyeing my own last name (Barker) within that of a microcap gold producer likely played a role in grabbing my attention when I first came across the company late last year. But from, that point on, it was purely an objective examination of this company's exciting potential that led me to initiate and grow a core position. The first factor to catch my eye immediately as I began due diligence was that this company had already just commenced production at its QR mine and mill facility (purchased from Kinross Gold for a song at just over $2m in shares and warrants, where prior owners had invested $75m).   [more]

Cash + PM Stocks = Our Best Shot at a Safe Haven

April 18, 2011 – Comments (35)

I have decided to gradually increase my own cash allocation from 10% to 20% as silver's as the recent run-up in prices makes it convenient to do so. Cash by itself is a seriously flawed safe haven, but when combined with the incredible profit outlook for gold and silver miners, I submit that the two combined create about the most favorable of any safe haven asset I can identify.  [more]

Developing a Scorecard for Assessing MicroCap or Junior Explorers/Miners

April 12, 2011 – Comments (39) | RELATED TICKERS: KBXRF , PZG , CLGRF

I have inserted a very brief pause in the microcaps series; because over the course of completing the first two company-specific discussions, it occured to me just how important a more uniform means of comparison could be to the overall effectiveness of the series. This is an idea I've tossed around for years, and now both the time and the reason to develop the idea have arrived.  [more]

Wag the Dog: Political Theatrics Add Insult to Injury

April 11, 2011 – Comments (21)

That Friday night theater was truly shameful. The congratulations and kudos that circulated thereafter were designed as mouthwash to remove the nasty taste in your mouth left by their preceding betrayal of the public interest. Let your elected representatives know what you think of their performance.   [more]
