The Biggest Deal in Big Equipment

December 23, 2009 – Comments (1)

I'm not sure whether you Fools came across my analysis of the Bucyrus deal and its impact upon the competitive landscape among mining equipment manufacturers, so here is a link for those Fools with an interest in this well poised sector.  [more]

The Ultimate Commodity Update

December 18, 2009 – Comments (12)

Those Fools who have been around the Sinchi block a few times may recall the first iteration of the Ultimate Commodity Update from back in March ... when there was virtually no consensus from any corner of the globe about the outlook for demand recovery. At a moment when even China's rip-roaring growth rate appeared susceptible to the paralysis affecting every other corner of the planet, Joy Global urged investors to watch for demand recovery in stages: first stabilization, and then recovery. China's massive stimulus package combined with a constant flow of strategic asset and resource purchases provided the stabilization, which provided a bridge to the additional boost from the now-completed steel industry destocking event in Europe and the U.S., which in turn brings us straight into sustainable demand recovery from China, India, and emerging markets. Last quarter, they expressed some concern over a potential interruption between the demand from Chinese stockpiling and whatever baseline level of global demand exists beneath it, and I think that is still a risk to some degree. I think their analysis was brilliant throughout, and investors who followed Joy Globals' sage analysis and positioned themselves early for the resumption of commodity demand will reap benefits for years to come.  [more]

Join the Quest for Recovery Confirmation

December 14, 2009 – Comments (32)

I spend every hour of every workday searching for a single convincing source of confirmation of the much-touted economic recovery, but like political incumbents seeking votes for their next elections, I keep coming up empty handed.  [more]

Great Panther Returns Yet More Bonanza Silver Grades

December 11, 2009 – Comments (8)

I have completely lost count of the number of drill holes this active silver producer has returned with silver grades above 1,000 grams per ton. Anyone who keeps close watch of mining stocks will know just how rich an ore body that indicates. The company will soon change its name to Great Panther Silver, because silver is something they seem to have no trouble finding.  [more]

The Top 10 Things You Might Like to Know About Gold and Silver Today

December 04, 2009 – Comments (18)

1. This correction did not emerge from out of left field, and nor did it catch seasoned gold investors by surprise. As I was reminded today, Jim Sinclair suggested back in May that gold would pause at $1,224 after surging outside of that 18-month corrective phase. I drafted this article yesterday, December 3, when gold was trading around $1,210:   [more]

Senator Bunning on Ben Bernanke

December 03, 2009 – Comments (22)

Four years ago when you came before the Senate for confirmation to be Chairman of the Federal Reserve, I was the only Senator to vote against you.  In fact, I was the only Senator to even raise serious concerns about you.  I opposed you because I knew you would continue the legacy of Alan Greenspan, and I was right.  But I did not know how right I would be and could not begin to imagine how wrong you would be in the following four years.  [more]
