DivX Dead?

May 02, 2007 – Comments (2)

I really wish I had added a bearish pick on DivX early last month instead of just adding them to my watchlist.  Here is my own "pitch" I attached to my watchlist entry "Tech is widely available, but is not superior to free solutions, and there is no distribution for content.".

With DivX lowering their Q2 expectations, I think we may be seeing a downtrend in DivX.  Video compression technology is obviously very important to the movie and online contect industries, but DivX has failed to make signifcant inroads in either technology.  You can buy plenty of DVD players with DivX technology, but you can't go the the local Best Buy and buy a DivX movie.  You can encode your own stuff from a PC or Mac, but why not use MPEG H.264, or other Apple/MS/Opensource tech?

I'm not even sure DivX makes for a good near-term takeover target as I can't imagine their IP is worth that much.

Any thoughts on this?  [more]

Enjoying the Evolution of CAPS

April 05, 2007 – Comments (3)

Between CAPS and Wall Street Warriors, my love of the market has been reinvigorated.  I'm really enjoying some of these new CAPS features (daily stock recommendations), and have been seeing some really good pitches.

Having said that, I've seen a few players wax superior on their pitches with claims like "doing this for a living".  Lets look at it this way- if your accuracy is less then 30% and you are a professional, you might not want to advertise it.  Just my humble opinion of course...  My rating has been as high as 80, and I freely admit to being a total amature.  [more]

Well, seeing my score drop like a rock has made me reevaluate my strategy. I'm really digging CAPS. I'm learning and having fun doing it. Good job Fool!

What am I doing here?

December 13, 2006 – Comments (0)

Alright, so I have no money currently in the market, but I plan on jumping back in over the next several months. Take my advice with a grain of salt. I've made my picks based on what I feel about companies or industries I am familiar with. We'll see how that works out! I hadn't even heard of CAPS until I went to check on my Fool account after several months of inactivity, and there it was.  [more]
