I have seen the bottom and it lies in the impending demise of Jim Cramer and the entire con that is the financial industry.
The entire interview, in three parts, uncensored and uncut.

i've personally bore witness to this for awhile now. as an avid autocrosser, one local club i compete with has lost two sites since last spring because a huge glut of timber was piling up, and needed to be stored somewhere. residential construction is at a standstill while greedy builders caught in chapter 11 try desperately to unload homes at unrealistic prices. most everybody i know tied in any way to real estate (agents, brokers, contractors, etc) are just trying to survive, or given up completely and joined the ranks of the underemployed. while nobody in the CAPS community will be shocked by these statements/observations, it still amazes me that people out here truly thought our wonderful state was isolated from this mess. sad, really.
as an aside, for those unfamiliar with what drives the economy in the portland/vancouver area, logging, housing and government are right up there with tech (intel/tektronix) and footwear/apparel (nike/adidas). it's no surprise, then, that we are ahead of the curve in terms of unemployment, and have recently experienced a severe downturn in the housing market after being somewhat isolated for most of 2008. apparently we're also the most unhappy people in the US. i personally can't agree with this claim (i lived in detroit during the boom years, and was never more miserable), it's definitely a good gauge on the sentiment of most people i run into around here. must be the weather - but i'll take rain over the snow/ice/wind of the winters and oppressive heat and humidity of the Great Lakes region any day! :P [more]
