After listening to the numbers on CNBC yesterday my reaction was they're not GM. The reaction from the talking heads and analysts, as well as the CEO, seemed to be a concerted effort to push the company and the economy out of recession by sheer will of self deception. [more]

California's fiscal crisis and pending bond downgrade should be a no brainer to sell California paper. But many income investors holding closed end muni funds don't have any idea of what the composition is. I just checked my wife's substantial holding in NUV, which is selling higher today at a premium to net asset value. At the top of the list is an almost 7% holding in California paper. The state is already defaulting on vendor and other payments and the legislature is brain dead. No time to be hopeful for divine interference - I sold. Anyone with similar funds must check their holdings. [more]
