I "grew up in the market', my Dad being an independent stockbroker in the days before computers. Lots of dinner table talk about "blue chips" and "investing for the long term." I began managing my own puny little portfolio when I was 16; I'm 60 now, and I've "beaten the market" in about 60% of the past 30-35 years (before that I just fell for get-rich-quick hype after hype, completely ignoring my Dad's advice.)
