USA sitting on Potential 500 Billion Barrels of Oil in Place in Bakken Formation.

February 28, 2011 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: XOM , CVX , COP

The Bakken Formation is known to be an important source rock for oil in the Williston Basin. The formation typically consists of three members: the upper and lower members, comprising shales, and the middle member, comprising dolomitic siltstone and sandstone. Total organic carbon (TOC) within the shales may be as high as 40%, with estimates of total oil in place across the entire Bakken Formation ranging from 10 to 500 billion barrels. See page 13 of 106 page report.

While the hydrocarbon resource within the Bakken Formation is tremendous, the Bakken is considered to be an unconventional oil play because it is typically characterized by very low porosity and permeability. Despite its unconventional nature, the significance of oil production from the Bakken Formation in North Dakota and the importance of gaining a greater understanding of the technical issues facing its further development can be demonstrated by the recent growth in oil production activity. The Associated Press announced on October 28, 2009,
that North Dakota had become the fourth largest producer of oil in the United States, ahead of Louisiana and Oklahoma, with the top three being Texas, Alaska, and California, respectively.

North Dakota produced 7.5 million barrels (242,000 barrels per day [bpd]) in December 2009, which is more than double the amount in December 2006 at 3.6 million barrels (115,000 bpd).

Recent forecasts predict production in 2011 to range from 300,000–400,000 bpd and to remain at this level for 10 to 15 years (1). This forecast was raised from a previous forecast of 280,000 bpd and is based on the success of the middle Bakken and Three Forks–Sanish plays, which are both believed to be sourced from Bakken shales.

Oil Shorts Head for Cover, can't short fundamentals anymore "Its GeoPolitical Risk that only Matters"

February 24, 2011 – Comments (4) | RELATED TICKERS: WLL , BEXP.DL , NOG

There are thousands of traders that are now caught on the wrong side of the trade in oil. Many have short positions built based on fundamentals of certain stocks that let many of them to believe they were good shorts. But the tables have turned on all shorts regardless of fundamentals because of the GeoPolitical Risk in the Oil transport which is the only thing that matters now as OIL surges over $101 per Barrel.

So lets use (CHK) for an example yesterday, after reporting earnings, the company opened down but soon short covering caused it to go deep in the green for the day.

I will look for the same type of action in (WLL) which met analyst estimates yesterday and is down in the pre-market by -1.05/shr to $62.46, The company already is trading at a 50% forward PE discount vs. some Bakken Oil companies like (BEXP), (NOG) so the upside far outweighs the downside especially with the GeoPolitical situation in the hub of the oil industry in the Middle East.

Here is what I picked yesterday :

The True winners will be  :

COG : $44.55

CLR : $65.99 forward pe 28.06

WLL : $63.18 forward pe 15.13

NOG : $28.40 forward pe 26.63

BEXP : $33.54 forward pe 31.17

IMO : $50.68 forward pe 17.77

GEOI : $30.19 forward pe 18.95

* Middle East mother of all Battles "Saudi vs Iran"

February 22, 2011 – Comments (3)

If you read behind just the headlines, you will see a picture of a mother of all battles brewing between "Saudi vs Iran"

What does this mean if your an oil investor? You better make sure your company's reserves are not located anywhere near the middle east. Better yet you better hope your company's reserves are on land in the USA or Canada.

Next stop: The House of Saud
By Pepe Escobar

Here's a crash course on how one of "our" - monarchic - dictators treats his own people during the great 2011 Arab revolt.

Here is an article that gives you an in depth look at why the Arab uprising will hit Saudi Arabia and become a Saudi vs. Iran conflict.

The Arab News newspaper anyway has already warned that those winds of freedom from northern Africa may hit Saudi Arabia. And it may all revolve around youth unemployment, at an unsustainable 40%. There's no question; the great 2011 Arab revolt will only fulfill its historic mission when it shakes the foundations of the House of Saud. Young Saudi Sunnis and Shi'ites, you have nothing to lose but your fear.

Video shows whats happening in Libya right now.

Exact samething happened last qtr, but within a few days not only did (ASYS) fill the gap up open, it far surpassed it as the same shorts headed for cover as more and more investors started buying shares of a company that is growing at a pace that most companies only dream of being able to duplicate.  [more]
