Vanadium: Energy's Holy Grail

December 30, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: REMX , LIT , MCP

In recent news Crosshair (CXZ) found the following Significant deposits of Vanadium:

The vanadium contained outside of the existing uranium resource includes 30.92 million pounds of V2O5 (vanadium pentoxide) in the indicated category and an additional inferred resource of 81.33 million pounds of V2O5. These resources are wholly contained within the C Zone and do not include the vanadium contained within the uranium resource. The vanadium contained within the existing uranium resource includes updated values of 11.90 million pounds of V2O5 in the indicated category and an additional inferred resource of 12.29 million pounds of V2O5 (see below for tonnage and grade details).

"We knew that the vanadium contained within our uranium resource was only a portion of the vanadium resource, but to increase it by more than 500% exceeded even our expectations," says Stewart Wallis, President and CEO of Crosshair.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vanadium at spot price costs about $7 per pound, $7 x 81.33M = $569.31M , this significant discovery makes CXZ extremely undervalued at current market cap in my opinion and even more so with Vanadium spot price continuing its upward move in 2011.

Vanadium uses:

The most common use of vanadium is in alloys for making rust-resistant steel used in manufacturing tools. Nearly 80% of the vanadium produced is used to make ferrovanadium or as an additive to steel. Ferrovanadium is a strong, shock resistant and corrosion resistant alloy of iron containing between 1% and 6% vanadium. Ferrovanadium and vanadium-steel alloys are used to make such things as axles, crankshafts and gears for cars, parts of jet engines, springs ,cutting tools, missile cases, jet-engine housings, nuclear-reactor parts, superconductive magnets, Vanadium foil used in binding titanium to steel and Solar/Battery

NewCastle a Stock ready to Soar to its historical mean.

December 23, 2010 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: NCT , AGNC , NLY

Once NewCastle uses up its Loss CarryForward, its shares should soar back to their historical mean of $25-$30 range.

Why would a $6.93/shr stock shares soar to their historical mean range, its called Hefty Dividend payouts.

For instance based on the last 9 months if there were no carry over losses, (NCT) would have paid rougly $7.20 eps in dividends based on the roughly $8 EPS it earned.

Why does (NCT) have to pay 90% of its earnings as a dividend you ask?

(NCT) is listed as a REIT in the tax code:

In order to avoid taxation at the corporate level, NewCastle, like other REITs, is required to pay out at least 90% of its taxable income as dividends to shareholders.
Therefore at $7/shr (NCT) would have a 100% dividend yield payout in the future based on the 9 months earnings so far this year .

Investors would flood into (NCT) to take advantage of the High dividend yield, sending the stock price higher therefore lowering the dividend yield per share payout.

On an historical mean the share price vs. dividend payout has peaked at $25 to $35/shr

4G + Cloud could spell Death for PC, thats why 4G Cloud is being called "The Next big Thing"

4G + cloud = the death of the PC John C. Tanner  |   May 03, 2010 telecomasia.net

For all the hype about Apple’s status as an icon creator and wireless-internet game-changer, one of its more controversial decisions regarding has been its refusal to support Adobe’s Flash multimedia for the iPhone or the iPad.   Many web users argue Flash is a minimum requirement for any device claiming to support access to the “real” Web.   Last week, Steve Jobs wrote a lengthy open letter explaining the reasoning behind the Flash decision. Many of his objections were technical, but his main gripe was that Flash is proprietary (as opposed to HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and H.264, which Apple supports instead) and, more to the point, creates “a third-party layer of software between the platform and the developer that ultimately leads to substandard apps.   Not unexpectedly, Adobe chief Shantanu Narayen disagrees with Jobs’ claims and flat-out denies some of them (not least that Adobe is not an open technology, as its Creative Suite software is designed to support multiple platforms).   Whoever’s right or wrong, there may be another possibility underscoring Jobs’ reasoning, suggests science-fiction writer and software programmer Charles Stross: the likelihood that the PC industry that Apple helped co-found over 25 years ago is dying.   The basic thesis ties together a number of separate events – Apple’s borderline-obsessive control policies over apps development for its devices, HP’s recent buyout of Palm and its WebOS platform that it could develop into a tablet to take on the iPad at the expense of Windows 7, and the reported death of Microsoft’s Courier tablet project – with upcoming developments for wireless broadband and cloud computing.

The 4G Cloud: Next Enemy of the State?Dec 20, 2010 11:07 AM
The 4G cloud, a giant project where Web meets Mobile, is rapidly becoming the next big thing. Will it also become the next enemy of the state?

You're probably familiar with the fact that Web and Mobile have historically been two very different concepts that have tried to make an impact on each other. The Web aspect ultimately wants to make the mobile aspect redundant, and vice versa. The 4G cloud is kind of a compromise, where the Web aspect takes care of the content and the mobile aspect takes care of the network capacity.

As Verizon Wireless rolls out its nationwide 4G LTE network in the years ahead, the carrier intends to let major content players take advantage of their network capacity. Google has played a key role in shaping the Web aspect of the 4G cloud to date, while Verizon Wireless has taken care of building the 4G network. As part of this effort, Google has also entered the OS stage.

Android smartphones and tablets will play a leading role in taking advantage of LTE networks. Also, when Chrome notebooks (and possibly tablets) will be commercially available sometime in 2011, we imagine 3G connectivity will primarily serve as the fallback option in areas where there's no LTE coverage. A large part of Google's OS effort in general is related to LTE connectivity and the emerging 4G cloud.

That said, Google is increasingly seeing the price the company has to pay for trying to merge the Web and Mobile worlds. The United Nations earlier this year indicated that the 4G cloud is an evil effort that needs to be controlled by governments.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year enthusiastically described how the 4G cloud one day will make the world as a whole a better place. Of course, Facebook aims to take part in that effort, but it won't be easy for Zuckerberg to take a lead role if the UN gets to decide how everything should play out.

That said, while we aren't convinced Facebook would be able to take the lead role in driving the world forward, we however strongly believe the UN's split and conquer strategy will only make the organization, if possible, even less relevant. If you ask us, it's most likely a matter of scoring desperately needed points with world leaders that are searching for the next enemy of the state - the 4G cloud.

Solid Rebound says : iSuppli, more growth ahead.

December 20, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: TECL , SOXL , NDAQ

Solid Rebound

In fact, industry observer iSuppli, now part of IHS Inc., reported this week that the global semiconductor market will achieve the largest dollar increase in its history in 2010, courtesy of a boom in DRAM and NAND sales that is benefiting memory suppliers.

A preliminary forecast from iSuppli shows that worldwide semiconductor revenue will amount to $304 billion in 2010, up from $229.5 billion in 2009. This represents growth of 32.5 percent for the year. Percentage growth was higher in 2001 than in 2010, when revenue rose by 36.7 percent. However, revenue increased by $74.5 billion in 2010, a record increase that shattered the previous benchmark expansion of $59.2 billion in 2001.

"While many observers expected the semiconductor industry in 2010 to achieve a solid rebound following the deep drop of 2009, the actual growth far outstripped all expectations," said Dale Ford, senior vice president for market intelligence services for iSuppli. "The enormous expansion in semiconductor revenue was based on renewed demand for electronic equipment, such as computers, televisions and cell phones."

Ford added, however, that semiconductor sales in 2010 are set to rise at more than three times the rate of electronics equipment revenue. "This augmented growth is being driven by a range of multiplying factors, including inventory rebuilding, upward price pressure due to a supply/demand imbalance and an increase in the average semiconductor content of major electronic products," he said.

Moderate Growth Ahead

According to the KPMG survey, conducted in collaboration with the Semiconductor Industry Association, 80 percent of semiconductor executives polled expect that revenue will grow by more than 5 percent next year, a sign of resiliency, as 87 percent of 2009 respondents projected similar revenue increases. In looking at the jobs picture, 29 percent of the respondents predict workforce growth of greater than 5 percent, compared to 23 percent in 2009 and 17 percent in 2008 — reflecting increased confidence in the resilient semiconductor industry.

"Our findings show an industry that expects moderate growth next year, which is extraordinary in the context of an uneven global economic recovery," said Gary Matuszak, KPMG global chair for the Information, Communication and Entertainment practice. "The continuing demand for electronic products ranging from tablets to smartphones, and an increased demand for technology integration in automobiles will buoy semiconductor manufacturers as the economy fluctuates."  [more]

Shocking that Silver & Gold are not going Stratoshpere today on FICA tax cut news.

December 07, 2010 – Comments (3) | RELATED TICKERS: GLD , SLV , SPY

Yes the news is great for the next 12 months and the stock market should head much higher, probably DJ 14k is now reasonable for 2011. Although in the longterm this is very bullish for the precious metals Silver & Gold. The government is only buying time to get jobs for the unemployed. FICA is Social Security, government is dipping their hands into the future Social Security funds to pay for today's recession.

Americans will get to keep $800 in FICA payments for 2011 based on $40k / yr pay

Based on 150M workforce on average with $40K = $800 x $150M = Fill in the Blank Check

Fica tax rate reduction for 2011 will increase spending for everyone in America  because while not everyone pays Federal or State taxes, everyone pays Fica tax.

On average a person earning $40k per year will get to keep $800 in 2011 for a couple that is $1,600 savings based on both earning $40k each.

Thank You Obama we needed that extra boost heading into 2011...

Global Optical Networking Market to Reach $20 Billion by 2015

Heavy Reading Publication: Vol. 6, No. 1, 2010 100 Gbit/s: New Technologies Deliver Bandwidth & Reach Cloud computing, video, remote storage, and other bandwidth-intensive services are driving demand for higher-speed connectivity.

Data center and enterprise network managers must replace existing 10-Gbit/s links with 100-Gbit/s links to meet user expectations and business needs. Carriers are upgrading transport links to 100 Gbit/s or more as suitable solutions become available. To meet these needs, equipment providers are developing new systems with 40-Gbit/s and 100-Gbit/s interfaces that cover distances from a few meters to several hundred kilometers.

Equipment providers, silicon developers, and optical component vendors face significant challenges from 100-Gbit/s interfaces. Considering these challenges, and the immediate need for 40-Gbit/s and 100-Gbit/s solutions, vendors face difficult decisions. For long-haul applications, the recent push to adopt DP-QPSK modulation with a coherent receiver is reducing investment in other modulation schemes already established for 40-Gbit/s long-haul systems. The CFP form factor is more flexible in the enterprise. Both DP-QPSK and CFP present many challenges to developers with high-speed signals and close integration of optical and silicon components.

The demand for 40-Gbit/s and 100+-Gbit/s networking is growing rapidly in the data center and for other client-side applications. Since 2005, 40-Gbit/s InfiniBand has been available and 120-Gbit/s InfiniBand has been available since 2008, taking a significant slice of the high-performance-computing connectivity market. Ethernet is now catching up with the 40GE products available and 100GE products rolling out from 2010. Sonet/SDH and optical transport network (OTN) continue to be important for connectivity into the metro and long-distance links.

During 2010 there will be significant investment by equipment vendors in 40GE and 100GE solutions for both the data center and enterprise backbone. InfiniBand will continue dominating the highest-performance computing systems, but the market share for InfiniBand is unlikely to continue growing as cost-effective 100GE systems become available from 2011/12. Both Ethernet and InfiniBand are supported by QSFP+ and CXP modules. The CFP form factor provides a more flexible solution with support for Ethernet, Sonet/SDH, and OTN over single-mode fiber but is significantly more expensive. By 2012 an alternative form factor will be required supporting single-mode fiber at significantly lower costs.

100 Gbit/s: New Technologies Deliver Bandwidth & Reach details and analyzes 100-Gbit/s technologies, identifying the key advantages they hold for equipment manufacturers, together with relevant 40-Gbit/s technologies. It also surveys component availability and profiles 25 leading vendors in this growing market. The availability of 100-Gbit/s interfaces is growing, with semiconductor and optical component vendors introducing new products that deliver better performance and greater integration. This is a demanding market with high development costs, and few vendors can offer complete solutions across the varied technologies.

Never sell a stock in a Secular Bull market.

December 01, 2010 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: SQM , ROC , POT

Motley Fool article suggested selling SQM on 11/29/10 saying it reached 52wk highs. I say so what, a stock can make new 52wk highs weekly when its in a Secular Bull Market, and SQM is actually in two secular bull markets, Fertilizer and Lithium. Another is ROC its also involved in Potash fertilizer and Lithium, its at 52wk highs but it can continue going much higher, its the opposite of a stock in a downtrend, everyday you think it can't go lower and it does. ROC will go much much higher, its Secular bull market in Lithium is just at the early stage. On Oct. 1st 2010 ROC increased Lithium prices by 8%.   [more]
