I Think We Passed A Cultural Shift

A few times in a lifetime you notice that things have changed enough that culture is really different than it was a couple of decades ago. The primary symptom of this is that fiction written before the cultural shift doesn't make a lot of sense. I noticed this a few years ago when I read the 1921 Aldous Huxley novel "Crome Yellow". I found the book boring and pointless. The problem was that the culture I was familiar with had changed so much that I didn't understand the cultural expectations that drove the plot. It just seemed like a lot of silly people being upset about nothing. I think we have passed through a large culture shift in the last decade and things will never be the same.   [more]
