Palin, I like her.

August 29, 2008 – Comments (13)

On the surface, I like her. She is a strong move leftward for the Republican party, which can only be good for the USA. She is a career employee of gov't having been a teacher, PTA member, school board member, and then having moved into the Mayor and Governor's mansions. Her husband is a solid union guy, and their family has benefited from the better pay, benefits, those types of jobs get you. Especially with a Downes Syndrome child one hopes she recognizes the value of those benefits and would like all Americans to have them.   [more]

A Glimpse at the Invisible Hand of the Market

August 28, 2008 – Comments (4)

I love the "Invisible Hand" concept. It is the force that would solve all problems financial if the Government and Dogooders and Unions and Treehuggers would just get out of the way and let it work. It is described as the markets recognition of a need causing money to be invested to solve that need in the pursuit of profit. But frankly, it is just BS. There is no "invisible hand" magic. It does not benefit "the people". Dogooders and Unions and Treehuggers are the worlds best defense against the "invisible hand". Because in truth the "invisible hand" is the union of Gov't and Business to take from you and give to another while skimming alot for themselves and call it free markets capitalism.   [more]

optional oil

August 27, 2008 – Comments (2)

The EIA revises June YOY oil consumption down by 5.6%, or 1.1 million BPD. Surprised? I'm not. Will it stay that far down? I don't think so. That was when the sticker shock of $4.00 gasoline was just setting in. July YOY will be similar, August YOY will have lower consumption, but not as much lower, as people adjust but still have to drive. But mostly June, July and August are the summer months of optional oil. You do not have to take a long vacation. Stay closer to home. Keep that power boat docked, I know Huntington Harbor was light on traffic on Memorial Day. But now school has started and you still have to work, gasoline is down below $3.75. Kids go to school, buses have to run, houses will get heated. It will take longer than 3 months to permanently reduce consumption by  5% unless we get a warm winter, and higher post election prices. In the meantime, don't get to excited.  [more]

Sketchy Business

August 13, 2008 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: HLYS.DL , SKX

Most of you probably don't pay much attention to Heelys anymore, since its share price has plummeted from when it was a wall street darling at $30.00/share, way down and back up to its current level of $4.50/share. In fact I would guess that most of you are more worried about getting run over at the mall by kids on wheels then news about Heelys. I however will always have a twisted place in my heart for Heelys, having used the buying opportunity at $12.00 to drive the lesson aboout catching falling knives very deeply home. A lesson I will not forget untill I forget the lesson and try again with a different company. And I did some due diligence before I bought. I read the lawsuit about injurys, and learned the prosecutor included data pointing how much more dangerous football and skateboarding is and so I was not afraid. I read the posts warning about how overstocking the stores would lead to having no sales until inventory was used up (are you listening homebuilder longs?) and I was willing to wait unaware of how long would take. I read posts calling Heelys trendy, comparing them unfavorably to an "enduring" concept like plastic shoes with holes to let pebbles in. I watched 10yr olds go heeling around and it looked cool to me, and the 10yr old knew he was cool too, heeling around the school hallway with his friends watching him and the janitor upset and wishing he had Heelys too.   [more]
