So let's figure out what we are getting, and try to identify what our Private Insurers contribute that is so expensive. Canada has Single Payer healthcare, wherein the Gov't pays the Doctors and all Canadians have access to equal quality of care. It is paid for by a tax which replaces insurance premiums. Their cost is half of ours. Let's see what choices they surrender in order to achieve their savings. We have an opportunity to provide for ourselves, as the Canadians provide for themselves. Representative Wiener has written an amendment to the House Bill which replaces it with the text of HR676, the only bill in Congress which will actually lower health insurance costs. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vt is introducing a similar bill into the Senate. There are no savings in the bill that Nancy Pelosi is bringing to the floor. [more]

Today, Oct 23rd Fox storyteller John Stossel, who we shall refer to as uknucklehead, penned an article with the emotionally charged title of ‘Congress Proposes More Fraud? And then goes on to tell me in the very first paragraph that the $8000 First Time Home Buyers tax Credit is “wracked with fraud”. Personally, when I see a question mark at the end of the sentence, it tells me the author doesn’t know diddly, but the truth is uknucklehead doesn’t report that Congress Proposes More Fraud, they merely suggest you reach that conclusion. In fact uknucklehead could have written the very same article with the title ‘FTHBC almost Fraud Free?’ or “it’s Not Really All That Bad” or “We Don’t Know Crap Until the IRS Audits Those Returns But That Doesn’t Stop Us From Reporting Government is Bad Even Though Government Uncovered Whatever Fraud We Will Report”. Apparently I express myself alot, but poorly. So I will attempt to answer this question by copying someone elses work. Please note that this was written in 2007, with older data. Since the time of the data which I think was 2002, the costs of health insurance have doubled. The $4000/capita cost has almost doubled to just under $8000, the family average is well over the $10k cited and the quality of either coverage is severely and substantially less adequate. [more]

But I'd love my local school district to have this opportunity to be frugal with my tax dollars, because every time my school district asks for a tax increase, its been to pay for health insurance. H Edward Hanway's bonus and salary over at cigna was 22 million, plus 10 mil in options. I am sure in America someone would happily do a better job than him for $400k. [more]

From the Financial Times.
A family of four under current law could expect to pay $15,500 by 2013, but that would rise to $17,200 if the new measures were adopted, the report found. The cost would be $21,900 by 2019 under the current system or $25,900 if the changes are implemented, it said. [more]

As most of you must know, Ken Lewis gets a parachute worth 68 million to cushion his descent from CEO of Bank of America. He commands this sum because of his unique value to the global economy and almost irreplacable leadership capabiliities. He is a special guy with special capabilities. If we had five such men of greatness in America imagine the greatness that could be achieved with over 300 million in value all in one place. For such a sum of of greatness and ability, one should expect great things. [more]
