From an industry standpoint a lot of tasty industries got too hot last week and priced themselves outside of my criteria.  I simply can't convince myself that biotechs are in anything other than an uptrend anymore.  IT services is probably going to continue its downward trend but it's presently at the peak of a wave and could potentially push higher.  Not hugely attractive but not wretched.  Oil and gas production and exploration still looks like a nice bottom over the past 3 months providing a bunch of opportunity.  The package food sector has formed a nice sideways battern after a lengthy run up, providing opportunity for a move either up or down.  Lastly, the construction and engineering sector has been in a pretty solid sideways trend for around 4 months now and is long overdue for a move either up or down.  [more]

The 3 month chart for production and exploration companies in the oil and gas industry looks like it may be bottoming in its 2013 downtrend which provides a couple of unique opportunities this week.  The danger is that while it has broken above its 30 day SMA it has done this 2 other times during the 2013 slide, only to continue the decline a short while later.  [more]

At the writing of my previous post I had an IRA that I was going to actively trade with approximately $7000 in it.  I started actively trading stocks with neutral results but then, with way too little knowledge, began trading options spreads.  The worst part is that I was successful out of the gate.  Pretty largely successful, actually.  In the span of about three months I took my IRA from $7000 to around $8500.  I then spent the next six months taking it from $8500 to $3500.  After this colossal derp, I realized that I *may* not know what I was doing.  I shoved the $3500 into what I considered some conservative positions and stepped away from investing for about a year.  [more]
