Most of the interest this week comes in sectors related to housing and construction.  Construction and engineering, construction and farm machinery, and heavy trucks both have nice sideways patterns that are primed for some manner of move, be it up or down.  [more]

The construction and engineering sector is still showing increasing lows but stagnant highs.  I'm not a full-fledged technician so while I'm sure the pattern has a name I have no idea what it actually is.  What I do know is that it signifies an increasing likelihood of a move.  There's always the potential for a downward move, but the strategy I use is intended to cut losses short and let winners run.  Oil and gas production and exploration companies continue to show a very nice bounce from a 6 month downtrend.  The same goes for specialized consumer services.  After its monumental cratering just shy of 3 months ago it has held a nice floor and has started a very slow climb upwards.  Still, upwards is upwards.  [more]

A couple of sectors are showing their bottoms over the past few months which means that there are some good opportunities out there.  Specialized Consumer Services had a big drop almost 3 months ago but has held its year old resistance line and pushed higher since.  Oil and gas production and exploration companies have also been pushing up since hitting what should be the sector low about 1.5 months ago.  [more]

Oil and gas production and exploration companies continue to dominate my favorite sector list.  It appears that the sector is bottoming and is due for a run.  It will still take another week or two to confirm this but I feel like it's worth the risk at this point.  The construction and engineering sector chart is also intriguing.  There's some pretty obvious resistance around the 650 mark but the increasing lows indicate that it's not in a true sideways pattern.  I feel like there's some pent up buying action that hasn't come to fruition yet.  It's certainly far from a guarantee but I feel it's worth a play.  Lastly, the specialty services sector appears to have established a floor after falling off a cliff almost 3 months ago. Floors are our friends because the stability may entice the big institutions to throw money their way.  [more]
