Accuracy Kills

June 28, 2007 – Comments (4)

Ai-yi-yi!  In 3 days, I fall from 143rd with a 99.54 Rating to 1274th with a 95.92 Rating. What happened?!  Forty newly added stocks, that's what happened. I feel like I'm starting all over in CAPS. In trying to break into the Top 100, I knew I had to step up to the plate and rate more stocks. So I went a little crazy... with 40 new choices. (Curse you, David Gardner, for creating such a fun & addictive game!)  The problem is that, at least with starting out in these new picks, my Accuracy got killed. It dropped from 68.32% on Friday to a new low today of 56.74%. Yikes! In the short time of 3 days, only 14 of those new picks went my way, while 26 of them went against me, some already showing double-digit percentage losses. And boy, did that take a toll on my overall Rating within CAPS.  [more]

Celebratory Cogitations

June 19, 2007 – Comments (3)

Well, the first CAPS contest is officially closed now. I didn't expect to win any money, and -- guess what? -- my expectations were fulfilled. At least on that front. All my other expectations were surpassed, actually. I was hoping to finish in the Top 40. I ended up 33rd in a field of 1986 players, with a Score of 180.20 and an unbelievable Accuracy of 95%. Sweet!!  [more]

Group Therapy

June 14, 2007 – Comments (0)

With only 4 biz days left in the "Fool vs. The World Contest" and a Rank: 59 out of 1975 (97.01%), an Accuracy of 85%, and a Score: 116.84, it is unlikely that I'll break the Top Twenty, much less win any money. (Wouldn't that be sweet, though?! Especially to be able to brag to my wife and colleagues about winning the contest! Oh well, dream on...) I only wish I'd stumbed upon the contest earlier than May 7th. Still, for having come late to the party and only played for a month, I'll be happy to remain in the top 95% of entrants and estatic if I can break into the Top Forty (at 98% and above). I also didn't know you could choose pink sheet stocks or *.OB stocks, but that makes sense since you can do that in CAPS. I'll be ready for the next contest!  Overall, it's been fun to pit myself against others (with a teenintsy chance of winning some money), with it being like a group therapy session for Fools. I like it very much and hopefully other similar contests will be brought onboard, and soon!   [more]

Tracking Jim Cramer

June 01, 2007 – Comments (2)

I love the fact that The Motley Fool tracks analysts and their picks, taking the mystique out of their title and bringing them down to earth for a side-by-side comparison with us "low-brows". If you're not familiar with this, simply search for the tracking device by adding the word "Track" to the analyst's name, and you arrive at the analyst's player's name.   [more]
