Good news for holders of shipping stocks like DRYS, DSX, etc. and for some iron ore mining companies like Rio Tinto (symbol:RTP), BHP Billiton Limited (symbol:BHP) and Cleveland-Cliffs (symbol CLF). This article on MineWeb highlights China's difficulty in getting enough high-quality iron ore into their country in order to produce steel for their ever-expanding infrastructure. To quote Tessa Kruger's article: "China's rising iron ore imports implies significant rises in the price of iron ore in the long term that will see this year's tough negotiation of Australian iron ore contract prices intensify in future." In writing a followup to my pitch for Agrium (symbol=AGU), I found and made reference to a SmartMoney article from their May 2008 issue, page 42. Here's what the author wrote: [more]

Continuing on the theme from my last blog post, that being the craziness of $200/barrel oil, I found a very direct, informative web page with lots of answers to some of the questions I have in mind. Paul Horsnell, head of commodities research at Barclays Capital, answers many different questions about oil in this article here, entitled “Crude Awakening for Oil Consumers”. I thought he answered the questions very directly and with some well thought out replies. See what you think from some passages I’ve selectively reprinted below, statements which either back what I’ve written earlier or with which I agree now. Comments within square brackets or outside quotes are my own. [more]
