Yes things are bad. Yes the rally we had in March happened too fast and sent prices too high. However, before that the market was assuming a doomsday scenario. Some statistics are looking better(i.e. housing starts, I know that the auction in my city(Grand Rapids, MI) this month was a lot more busy than just last month as people are beginning to snatch up some bargains.) I know earnings are coming up and a lot of them will be dismal on paper, but I think they might beat the very very low analyst expectations. Banks are essentially getting free money so whatever they lend it out at is going to make money. Also the VIX just closed at its lowest level since January. Is this a sign that investors are becoming less fearful and more optimistic? Also, whether one agrees with the uptick rule or not, reimplementing it will likely boost stocks even higher in the short term. [more]

President Obama recently called the stimulus package "a major milestone."
This should read "a major millstone" has been placed around Americans' necks.
