So what's up with holding all your bad picks?

July 27, 2007 – Comments (1)

Right now, my score is in the 100th percentile either way. I'd be playing differently if this were real money, but as of right now my accuracy is the most important score I can raise. A pick that's (-100) affects my rating as much as one that is (-1). If I picked them for the right reasons, i'll get a few correcting into the +5 range every week, which I can end to slowly help creep my accuracy and my rating up. My good picks are ended already, although I'm hanging onto my top two bankruptcy picks as well for that lucky charm - Its magically delicious.  [more]

Is oil getting out of hand?

July 09, 2007 – Comments (4)

Oil has been a truely remarkable investment this year. I have plenty of CAPS picks in oil because their balance sheets are just so good - high profit to market cap value, low peg ratios, high growth, and great margins. If I pick a stock at random out of a stock screen like this, there's probably a 60% chance it's oil.

If you want further proof that oil stocks rule, just look at WCWlooky. He actually has the highest raw score of anyone on CAPS, and that's all from predicting that oil will kick butt way back on January 8th, and picking oil stocks like crazy accordingly.

While it used to be just him going gangbuster in the oil sector, now you hear it all over the place. When it reaches the dumb masses, I think its time is already about up. I think it'll be important to keep a close eye on oil as a sector before it becomes insanely overbought and overpriced.

There are other things to consider here too.

What will happen to the oil sector if:
natural resources start to dwindle?
alternative energy sources are perfected?
we elect a peace president in 2008 and pull troops out of iraq?

I don't think it will happen too soon, but I do think any of these will have a profound impact on the entire economy, not just oil, when it does - just like the tech bubble.   [more]
