Playing the CAPS game.

July 20, 2010 – Comments (1) | RELATED TICKERS: PG , HTD

Playing CAPS is about doing better than everyone else. It doesn't do much good to pick something like Proctor & Gamble (PG) because over 6000 other people have also picked it. When P&G goes up, all 6000+ people have their score go up. That doesn't help you get ahead. On the other hand, something like the John Hancock Tax-Advantage Dvd, Inc.m Fd.(HTD) has less than 50 players and pays a hefty dividend, so the starting price is continually going down regardless of what the stock price does. Picking a stock like that moves you ahead of the pack when it does well. And since HTD is a diversified fund, its price likely to be less volatile than a single company stock, so it won't look like much on a price chart.  [more]
